Welcome to Part 2 of a 10-part series called Where We Scrap, where our bloggers share their scrap space with you. This week, Sue Sykes is sharing her space.
Hello everyone!! Hope you had a wonderful holiday season!
I’m excited to share my studio photos with you today. You see, we recently started renovating my studio. And by recently, I mean two years ago. Yep, it was certainly a LONG project, but I finally managed to get it done and put back together (with a few aesthetics touches to finish).
The first thing we did was tear down the wall and install French doors. Like Jayme, I felt too isolated from my family when scrapping. My studio is off of our rec room downstairs – these French doors open all the way in so when I want to connect with my family, I can open them up!
As you can see, we still need to finish the outside trim!
Just inside the doors on the right is a storage space, under our stairs. We installed shelving for photo boxes, extra albums and 3 Sterilite 3-drawer containers which hold my scraps, sorted by colour.
Continuing along the left wall, I have the bulk of my punches stored on Bygel kitchen rails from Ikea. These rails are close enough to the wall to prevent the punches from slipping through and come in two sizes. I also have my magnetic die board that you may remember from my Tuesdays with the Team post back in August.
Along the back of my studio, I have two Expedite units to store a variety of products.
Cardstock, specialty papers and kit club kits are stored on the acrylic paper trays. Cropper Hopper paper holders hold all of my patterned papers, as well as design team products. My Spectrum Markers are stored in one of the cubbies, but I think I’m going to splurge on the new storage system for them, once I make sure it will fit!!
The small Kassett white boxes (from Ikea) store various supplies and embellishments, sorted by colour. The large Kassett boxes store larger items such as material, canvases, chipboard mini albums and altered items waiting to be decorated! 🙂
The smaller unit holds all of my albums (some unopened!), masks/templates, some stamp sets and embossing powders The bins are full of chipboard shapes and alphas, rub-ons and my Slice machine with accessories.
Along the right and final wall, I have my Expedit desk/bookshelf with computer and yet another Expedite shelving unit! (Yes, I feel like we single-handedly kept Ikea in the black last year… :s)
In these photos, my sewing machine is on the small unit , but my Silhouette Cameo has since taken its’ spot and the sewing machine is tucked into a cubby so it can be pulled out for easy stitching. The rolling cart to the right of the unit was purchased at Costco several years ago and is perfect to store all of my wood-mount stamps.
And of course, the fabulous wall art is by my lovely friend, Katrina Murphy, of Skribblz Art Designs. I gave her the quote and colour scheme, but she worked all of the magic!
In the centre of the room is my custom-made worktable. It is two (you guessed it!) Ikea Expedit units, on casters, covered with a custom cut tempered glass tabletop. I can roll it into the middle of the room when working and then it tucks up against the wall, under my punches, when I need it out of the way! The cubbies are filled with all of my oft-used tools and mixed media supplies.

Thanks for “visiting”! 🙂

Wow, what a great place to work. Lots of good ideas for storing treasures as well. I too have a work room but it usually looks like a bomb went off while I am in the throes of scrapping. I try to tidy up between projects but Yoda’s advice to not try but to do would be good for me to follow! Sometimes the projects just run into one another and I am lost! New Year, new resolution – get organized! Thanks for sharing.
awesome! love dark wood cases and the wood floors! And I never even noticed the unfinished trim casue I was drooling over how the doors look like shoppe doors 🙂
Fabulous work space and great storage. Love the magnetic board on the wall for dies. Thanks for sharing
WOW!!!!! What a gorgeous space. Love the quote on the wall and how all your colours coordinate. Would love to spend my crafting time in that room, it’s beautiful.
Great space!!! Where did you get the acrylic trays for your cardstock and the red bins/baskets in your smaller unit??
Sue,I am in awe over your gorgeous work studio! It is so organized & neat. My room is always so messy. LOL Thank you for sharing! Love it all!
What a wonderful space. Love the pics.
wow, so jealous, what a great space
what we all scapers just dream about beautiful
I want!! All of it. Beautiful.
Thanks, everyone! It’s not normally this tidy – I had just finished putting everything away after the reno and I hadn’t started creating yet!! You should see it now… 🙂
To answer your question, Jenn Joncas, the acrylic trays were purchased via Kijiji from a local stamper who was moving to an alternate storage solution. I got them at a steal, too – 30 trays for $60!
The red canvas bins with the silver metal grommets were all from Shoppers Drug Mart from their summer merchandise this past year. I have seen similar ones (in different colours) at WalMart too.
Hope that helps!
Thanks Sue for all of your wonderful ideas. It gives inspiration for me to do some different ways to do things for organizing. You are so lucky to have such a room. 🙂
Hi Sue! Thanks for sharing your fabulous, creative space! I love everything, of course and I think my favourite is the French doors! Scrap on, my friend, scrap on! 😀 (giggle)
Aw, this was a very good post. Taking a few minutes and actual effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I put things off a lot and never seem to get anything done.
