Happy Tuesday everyone! Kim here to share a heartfelt layout with you today! It has been ten months since our dear Java left us for “puppy fields in the sky” and I still am surprised to come home and not be greeted by her, 14 years of unconditional love forms routines!
My process for this page came together easily, I think because the subject is so dear to my heart. I had saved some of the thoughtful cards sent to us when we had to put Java down. I think originally I couldn’t throw them out because it made her passing so final and I was genuinely surprised that people had sent them, after all to some she was “just a dog”.
When I came across the Graphic 45 paper collection “Raining Cats & Dogs”, I knew it was time to pull the cards out to save forever! This paper collection was perfect for Java’s gentle, classic soul! I love the journal cards that come with the collection and used them on this page to frame words from my saved cards.
The title was created using Core’dinations Cardstock and Sizzix dies. I am in LOVE with all three sets of Sizzix dies used…I know they will be used over & over & over again! BEST BUY EVER!
The little paw prints at the top, are replicas of Java’s paw prints sent to us along with a beautiful card by the wonderful team at our veterinary clinic. I don’t know if they appreciate how much they meant to us [my son keeps a copy of them in his wallet!]. I scanned them into Photoshop Elements to delete the background of the paper they came on and saved them as a PNG file. I imported into my electronic die cutting machine and resized them to fit the corner of the page – they cut beautifully and where the perfect final touch to my page!
I hope I have inspired you to save some of those cards you get [for any reason] and put them to use. Sometimes they are all the journaling you need! NOW GO HUG YOUR PETS!

What a great layout!!
Hi Kim what a beautiful layout in memory of your furbaby. I lost my girl in Feb and yet have been unable to finish her journey in her scrapbook. I have only recently been able to start the book for a girl I lost 10 yrs ago before I scrapbooked. They are such a part of us and the loss is deep and heart breaking but I would never live a life without them.
Thank you so much for sharing your story about your beloved Java. In July I had to put my best friend and soul mate Missy Precious to sleep. She was a Labrador too. I am still trying to get through each day without her.
I believe I was truly meant to find your blog today. As it is the same day I sat at my computer and organised Missy’s photo’s and went and printed some ready to scrapbook. I already have this collection of papers too and it was great to see your wonderful idea’s with the cards you received. I too have not been able to throw out the cards and will now keep them and incorporate them into my layouts.
Our wonderful vet also got a stamped paw print from my Labrador Missy was I have tattooed on my right wrist as the print was from her right paw. She was my Sunshine, my only sunshine.
Thank you for sharing xo
Absolutely love this layout, I was looking for a way to do a tribute to a loved pet for my husband and now I have found it – thank you, very beautiful!
Inspired me to tackle a project for our sweet Zeb who crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you!
Java looks like such a sweet dog. This is a nice layout to remember her, Kim.
