I will never forget how excited Christy Riopel was for her very first Art Show. For weeks she created canvases filled with her fun loving mixed media style. So many of the techniques she practiced and taught in her art journals showed up on her one of kind canvases. I smile when I think of her creating in her studio.
My daughter and I drove all the way to Calgary (a five hour drive) to attend. I am so grateful that I did. She didn’t know I was coming – the look on her face was PRICELESS when she saw me walk in. From elephants to pandas to ballet slippers her booth was filled with her beautiful creations. I had a very hard time deciding what to purchase. After a few cups of coffee I decided on a HUGE mixed media canvas of an elephant.
This beautiful piece will forever sit in my office – where I spend most of my days. It makes me feel happy when I think of Christy inking, stamping, stenciling, gessoing and not worrying a bit if she cleans her stamps and stencils! Giggle Giggle! The elephant is an ever gentle and wise spirit animal. I never knew this at the time – now it means even more to me. I feel like Christy is watching over me with those soft, gentle, non-judging eyes.

Did you know you can still purchase Christy Riopel’s work? You sure can. This is a screen shot for their home page – THERE IS WAY MORE TO SEE! – CLICK HERE
Mike Riopel, Christy’s husband, donates all the proceeds back into the Christy Riopel Art Scholarship fund. How wonderful is that. You get a little piece of fun loving art while the proceeds go to a child who needs art in their lives the most. This is clearly a WIN WIN!
Thank you so much everyone for all your generosity – I truly appreciate it.
Creative Scrapbooker Magazine is honoured to announce that we have started an ART Scholarship in Christy’s name. For those of you interested in honouring Christy Riopel and helping her legacy of ART continue, we are collecting donations for art scholarships for youth through the Boys & Girls Club of Calgary.
