Hello everyone!  Can you believe that it’s already Feb 3rd?  2015 is flying by! A few days ago, I posted the February sketch in our Sketchy gallery.  In case you aren’t familiar with our monthly sketch challenge, let me be the first to enlighten you!  Each month, I create a sketch and post it in a new section in our challenge gallery.  Each month has its’ own gallery which contains the monthly sketches, along with lots of inspiration from our talented team members and readers! Quick tip:  If you want to see all of the sketches at once, you can find them HERE in my gallery. This month, the sketch features a single photo but you can easily adjust this sketch to suit multiple photos by simply enlarging the circle elements and adding more photos.  In honour of Valentine’s Day and its’ theme of love, I created this layout using…

Honestly now. How cute is this herd? Although these are simple cards, colouring can sometimes take time. Truthfully, I don’t feel like colouring in detail most of the time. Anything that takes time is not my style. (Patience, much?) Instead, I’ll stamp several images on some white cardstock and colour while watching one of my favourite shows. And let’s get serious… January is unofficially “camp out and watch TV” month. So, how did I do it? These are Stampin’ Up! Blendabilities markers. They are alcohol based and come in sets of three, which includes a light, medium and dark shade. They have them in packs of three because it takes all the guesswork out of how to blend and shade. There is a knack to colouring and blending but my rule of thumb is always – colour what looks “right” to you. You can think about the light source and…

Today we welcome Nicole Wright, also known as Canadian Nickel Scrap’n, who creates amazing projects with Sizzix! Well, can I just say I’m thrilled to be a Guest Blogger on Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine!  Hey everyone, my name is Nicole. I live in beautiful Calgary, Alberta with my husband of 20 years and 3 growing kids. I’m a proud Canadian Blogger and I love all things grungy, vintage and messy.  I’ve worked hard to find my style and I love sharing my creative process. In 2014 I entered and won the Sizzix http://www.sizzix.com/home  Who Are You Contest as North America’s Top Crafter.  I was flown to Sizzix where I spent the day meeting the Sizzix Team, crafting and learning.  Every crafters dream! I was asked by Sizzix Designer Eileen Hull to create 5 projects for CHA from her newest Sizzix Collection.  I’m excited to share with you my Travel Trailer.  This new Sizzix collection…

The dramatic displays in the graphic 45 booth at the Craft & Hobby show are always impressive. Each collection is housed in its own display cabinet and area.  There are 3 newest releases….Home Sweet Home is reminiscent of home cooking, gardening and similar vintage images. The Plaid booth is a busy, busy place at the Craft & Hobby show. Perhaps most of us think of Plaid for its well-known product:  Mod Podge. Part of this line now includes a dimensional embellishment you can make, called “Mod Melts,” where you fill silicone molds with heated ‘Mod Podge’ glue sticks. Plaid also has a few brands of craft paints that most of you are familiar with:  Delta, FolkArt and Apple Barrel.  These brands also have a huge assortment of stencils. There are lots of fun projects on display! For more product information and inspiring projects, please click HERE and visit the Plaid website.

When to stop and when not to? by Christy Riopel January always makes me a little introspective and I tend to scrapbook more interpersonal stuff this time of year. I created this layout about dealing with the old(er) girl in the mirror these days. SUPPLIES: FabScraps pattened paper and chipboard, Aladine Izink inks distributed by Clearsnap, May Arts ribbon, Impression Obsession stamps, ColorBox Surfacez ink by Clearsnap, Spellbinders dies and Grand Calibur die cutting machine, Dymo Label Maker, Ranger Industries gel pen, Beacon Adhesives. It ended up being an exploration in not just one hard question ( when did I get this old?) but in another unrelated question I often face….. When do I stop? When is enough on a layout? Here is a picture of what It looked like when I first thought it was done.    Not that I was unhappy with it but I just felt it needed more.…

It’s hard not to get giddy in the May Arts Ribbon booth at the Crafty & Hobby tradeshow!  JUST LOOK AT ALL THAT RIBBON!! There isn’t a pattern or colour under the sun that isn’t found in the May Arts ribbon booth. Every texture imaginable is available too….canvas, twill, burlap, twine, etc. The metallic trend is even found in ribbons! There is an Artful Accents collection with some packaged banners too. Plenty of velvet rickrack! Here are some newly released ribbons….beautiful vintage print inspired! Love the patterns on these larger widths, with printed burlap being another new trend. Here’s what May Arts has to say about the Spring Summer 2015 trends in ribbon: “For spring and summer, we are still seeing a love for nature and rustic vibes, but a love for patterns is increasing. Expect to see demand for gingham, oversize floral prints, and jumbo dots. As far as colors,…
