Love art journal page

For me, there are three things I have to pay close attention to when I create an art journal page. The composition, color and layers. Using a sketch keeps me focused, otherwise I have a tendency to overcrowd my pages.

I find color is the element I most often mess up, I have a lot of brown in my practice journals.
I get inspiration for my color combinations from existing textures that I find on walls, either in person or on Instagram or Pinterest.

The last element I need to pay attention to is my layering. I need to pay careful attention to when I add the water soluble mediums. I’ve been disappointed on many occasions when something reacts with a new layer and my colours go rogue on me. (Once again turning everything brown.) For this layout I started with the gesso, paint and texture paste and ended with the inks and distress crayons.
