Same Product – THREE Different Designs featuring MultiCraft

THREE uniquely different scrapbookers were given the exact SAME product from MultiCraft and asked to create a project. This is one of my MOST FAVOURITE challenges! We invited Lee-Ann Thornton, Kerry Engel and Tracy McLennon to create a project using the exact same products from the MultiCraft Forever In Time collection. The results are SOOO much fun. 3-In-1 July Sketch Challenge

Hello everyone – Kerry Engel here! With the start of a new month – brings us our monthly sketch challenge. Here is July’s sketch… Six photos on one page! This is a great layout for telling a visual story. Clustering the pics tightly on the left and keeping the right side empty balances the design. Succulent Summer LayoutMy daughter and I have a lot of succulents. The Simple Stories Summer Days Collection was perfect for our springtime ritual. I created the “succulent” title and white border (based on the sketch) on my cutting system. I filled in the flowers with different papers from the collection. Aloha featuring Heartfelt Creations and Stabilo

Hello everyone Kerry Engel here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog. I’ve loved plumeria since I first went to Hawaii in (cough, cough) 1974. I just couldn’t resist Heartfelt Creations Plumeria and their Tropical Paradise Collection. It just makes me smile. It reminds of Hawaiian leis, beaches and Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles” (it was 1974, remember?). To create the flowers I stamped one set in pink (and one in orange) Clearsnap ColorBox ink. I left everything on the stamp positioner so that I could stamp on top and then emboss once I was done coloring. I embossed with Clearsnap ColorBox clear embossing powder.I coloured the stamps with Stabilo Carbothello chalk pastel pencils. I blended the colours with a blending nib. I did the same thing with the Parrot. 3-in-1 May Sketchy Challenge by Kerry Engel This month’s Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Sketchy Challenge is bubbling with fun. There are so many ways to interpret this design. My daughter was home from University one weekend studying economics and finance. Her weekend was basically summed up by the fun emojis in Simple Stories Emoji Love collection. It’s a great collection for telling stories without a lot of words.Supplies: Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock, Simple Stories Emoji Love collection, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L. I wanna bring back “Sticker Cards”. (Not sure “Sticker Cards” was ever really a trend but they should have been because it’s quick and dirty). Hello everyone – Kerry Engel here!I’ve got a soft spot for Creative Memories. I started my scrapbooking journey with them 20 years ago. I have over 25 completed CM albums. All of my layouts have a home in one of their albums. Their latest collection is a hit with my youngest daughter. . . she loves the adorable big-eyed critters. When I saw the baby animals I thought they’d rock a tag. I’ve been addicted to tags this year. I find them a fun alternative to cards and great additions to my scrapbook pages. 1. Make a “tag” base. I made the big tags using a couple of CM punches and a sheet of stickers.To start, I cut rectangles from Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock and then used the CM 4-way Corner Punch to create funky scalloped corners and oblong hole. Hello everyone – Kerry Engel here with a fun card for you to colour and design at home. This card is a bit of a mash-up. I first drew out the words and cut out half the butterfly on my electronic cutting machine. You could easily just print it out on cardstock and fussy cut half the butterfly if you do not have a cutting machine. – CLICK HERE for the project.I stamped around the words with a Falling Flowers stamp from Stampin’ Up! I made a mask of the stamp (and words) so I could layer the flowers down the side of the card.I used a Ranger embossing pen and traced around the main title and used clear embossing powder to create a raised border on the letters. I coloured in the letters, butterfly and flowers using my Chameleon pens. Shading and layering with various yellows and oranges. To finish it…

April Sketchy Challenge with Kerry Engel

April Sketchy Challenge Blog Post 3-in-1 challenge. Happy April everyone! Kerry Engel here. I thought this month we could talk about design principles. I’ve always been a disciple of the CRAP Method of designing: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity. These are the four principles that dictate pretty much everything I create. Here’s how I’ve used these principles in the April sketch: Contrast is created through the placement of the photo strip on the left and the white space on the right. Repetition is expressed through the repeating of the circle motif and the rectangular shapes in the photos and journaling blocks. Alignment is achieved by keeping all the spaces between the elements a similar distance apart. Proximity is attained by keeping “like” elements close and tight. The journaling is kept together (in one area) and isn’t spread all over and the photos are kept collected in one area too. This…

It’s a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? I’m still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that it’s about ‘playing’ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense. Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. That’s where having a sketch as a launching point helps. Way up on the Mountain – Featuring BoBunny – Take a Hike By Kerry Engel Creative blocks? Do you every get them? Sometimes I move the photos around for days. They sit on the counter and everyday I come in and move them around until something jumps out for me. With this set of pictures my first impulse was my go-to “grid layout”. This layout sat on my counter for a few days, it felt sort of boring, it didn’t get my mojo going. That goofy selfie photo made me laugh and I felt like it should be the dominant photo on the page.
