Howdy! Noreen from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com here to share a Western themed layout featuring the new “Wide Open Places” Collection from Creative Memories! This collection will be amazing with photos from the farm or ranch, horse riding, road tripping through the “wild west” and so much more. I am particularly thrilled to have a collection that I can use to celebrate the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth – the Calgary Stampede! Being a born and raised Calgarian, I grew up attending the Stampede Parade, the Midway, Rodeo and Agricultural events – not to mention hundreds of outdoor Pancake Breakfasts! I decided to use the collection with photos of the last Grandstand Show and Chuckwagon Races my husband and I attended back in 2019. Side note: although the Stampede was sidelined by Covid in 2020 and operated as a reduced event in 2021, it is back and better than ever for 2022…we are so excited! Now every Cowboy knows the value of a good fence, so it was fun to create a floating frame with the new Field Fence Punch. Although this is technically a border punch, you can easily adapt it to create a frame around a 12” x 12” page as I did with a piece of the tan paper from the Wide Open Places Paper Pack. Place the top edge of the paper into the punch and line up the left edge of the paper with the very outside edge of the base plate of the punch. Punch. Remove the paper, turn and place the paper back into the punch with the corner adjacent to where you just punched at the outside edge of the base plate on the right side. Punch. Repeat on all four corners of paper. To punch along the straight edges in between the corners, place the paper into the punch and line up the actual punched shape with the image of the shape on the base plate of the punch. Punch, move along, match up the picture again and punch once more. Repeat on all four sides. The inside square will “float” away from the fence frame. Use a pair of Micro Tip Scissors to trim any uneven edges and the small marking triangles leftover from the punch (indicated by the arrows in the image below). You will end up with four solid shapes at the corners between the fences. Use the back side of the Two-Way Corner Rounder to punch out a notch in each corner. Mount the finished floating Field Fence frame onto a contrasting base page – like this Red Bandana paper from the Wide Open Places Paper Pack – to make it stand out. I love how the frame turned out to look like a pen that you would keep horses or cattle in, so why not accent it with some horses? Punch four horses with the Horse Punch from Hot Fudge Cardstock and four from Light Grey Cardstock. Layer the Light Grey horses on top of the Hot Fudge horses so it creates a shadow under the horse. Adhere with Repositionable Adhesive. Run the bold tip of the Brown Dual-Tip Pen over the back of the horse to finish it. Mount one horse in each corner of the frame with Foam Squares to give it some depth and dimension. (TIP: Use the same technique with the Brown Dual-Tip Pen along the edge of matted photos to easily “age” them!) Finish the layout with photos mounted with Kraft Photo Corners, a title created with Brown Script ABC/123 Stickers, hat, boots, rope, horses, word art and star stickers from the Wide Open Places Sticker Pack and journaling with the same Brown Dual-Tip Pen! Here are some photos of the finished details… I love how this collection and the resulting layout captures the old West feel of the Calgary Stampede, and I can’t wait to attend again in July 2022 and capture some more great photos to use with it! I certainly hope you get a chance to visit the Stampede someday, AND use the Wide Open Places Collection to document all ‘yer western adventures! Yeehaw!
