Step-by-Step Instructions to Design a Beautiful Birthday Card

Step 1: Heat Emboss the Floral Elements Step 1: Heat emboss floral stamps from Penny Black on mixed media paper, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialUsing the Penny Black Nature’s Jewels Stamp Set (31-048), stamp the floral images on Prism Studio Mixed Media Paper. Emboss the images using gold Brutus Monroe Embossing Powder to give them a sophisticated and elegant look.

Step 2: Activate Pigment PowdersStep 2: Apply Lindy’s Magical Powders to craft mat, preparing for pigment painting, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialSprinkle Lindy’s Gang Magical Powders (Oh Canada Crimson, Poutine Gold, and Banff Blue) onto your craft mat. Mix these powders with small amounts of water to create your desired shades.

Step 3: Paint the Embossed ImagesStep 3: Paint embossed floral images with activated pigment powders, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutoriaUsing a fine brush, paint your heat-embossed florals with the activated pigments. The shimmering hues from Lindy’s Gang powders will give the flowers depth and texture.

Step 4: Fussy Cut Your FloralsStep 4: Fussy cut the painted floral elements using craft scissors, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialOnce the painted images are dry, use OLFA Craft Scissors to carefully cut out the flowers, readying them for placement on your card.

Step 5: Create the BackgroundStep 5: Sprinkle and spritz pigment powders to create a colorful background, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialSprinkle more Lindy’s Gang Magical Powders randomly on a new sheet of Prism Studio Mixed Media Paper. Spray water onto the powders and let the colors spread naturally across the page. Let the background dry thoroughly.

Step 6: Emboss and Sponge the BackgroundStep 6: Emboss and sponge distress inks over the background, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialOnce the background is dry, emboss it using the Penny Black Rounded Embossing Folder (65-016). After embossing, sponge Ranger Distress Oxide Inks over the raised areas to add dimension and color contrast.

Step 7: Add White Paint SplatterStep 7: Splatter white paint on the background for texture and depth, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialTo give your background an artistic flair, mix Prism Studio White Paint Marker with a small amount of water and splatter it across the card with a fan brush.

Step 8: Stamp the SentimentStep 7: Splatter white paint on the background for texture and depth, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorial
Die-cut a circle from Prism Studio Foil Cardstock and stamp the birthday sentiment using the Penny Black Super Day Stamp Set (31-044) and Dylusions Archival Ink. Ink the edges of the sentiment circle with Ranger Distress Oxide Ink for added effect.

Step 9: Assemble the Card
Using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, adhere the embossed background onto Prism Studio Stitched Nesting Dies, layering them onto your card base. Assemble the card with embossed background, florals, and sentiment, Creative Scrapbooker Magazine tutorialAttach the cut-out florals, tie a piece of May Arts Twine, and embellish the card with Pinkfresh Studio Gems for the finishing touch.
