Finding “Your” Happy Place – by Cathie Allan
A few weeks ago I posted a few photos on Instagram showing a project that I was working on. I had some “brand new” stencils and stamps from Magenta and I just could not wait to dive into a project. Not knowing what it should be … “Que sera sera” (if you don’t remember this song, you are younger than me, lol), I simply began playing in my art journal book. The products I used are shown in the following photo.
Of course I was using my trusty pigment inkpads from Clearsnap and I threw in some stamping with white acrylic paint to get added texture. The project of course grew from what I shared on Instagram and it is now one of my projects that makes my “stampy, stencilly, inky heart” smile. I added a gorgeous “multi-sized” dragonfly stencil and the cutest little fairy stamp … of course, brand new from Magenta and then it hit me … I was in my “Happy Place”! I was covered in ink and I was doing what I have loved to do for over 30 years, I was altering paper … taking it from white to “oh, my goodness, NOT WHITE, anymore”. You most definitely have to check out Magenta and their new release … you will be “in your happy place” when you do!
Will this background idea become a card, will it morph into a scrapbook page, of course … it has too. It was simply so much fun to create that I will want to use the techniques that I used again and again. Yes it was easy … and my pigment inks did most of the work. I did stamp the daisy’s in Blackbird fluid chalk so I could color them and my fairy in using some “Cathie Allan” simple coloring techniques that I share in my articles and in the classes that I teach and I used some “white acrylic paint” that everyone seems to have in there “stash”. My pigment inks simply are so versatile and I can accomplish such a wide variety of looks and techniques with them that they will keep me in “my happy place” for probably another 30 years. Thank goodness for refills for my stamp pads, together … stamp pad and refill … I can be in “my happy place” for years to come!
Did I mention that
is one of our….

What a fun “scene”!!
I love all the soft layers with the bright flowers and the dark dragonflies. It’s good to be reminded to start with the process rather than the need for a specific outcome.
Beautiful, the colours just pop. love it.
