Hello Creative Scrapbookers! Kim here with a quick layout share inspired by the September Sketchy Challenge!

Creative Scrapbooker Magazine / august Sketchy Challenge
September 2021 Sketchy Challenge signed by Kerry Engel for Creative Scrapbooker Magazine

When I use a sketch, my first goal is to make it my own! I rarely follow it exactly. When you see my layout, you may think it looks nothing like the sketch, but let me show you how I was inspired! I also challenged myself to use LOTS of product on this layout. I usually don’t use a lot of stickers, labels and die cuts on my layouts, but it’s good to step out of your comfort zone to work your creative brain!

My completed layout! Do you see how I was inspired by the sketch?

Let me show you my process…

Simple Stories / Safe Travels collection
After deciding to use the August Sketchy Challenge, I choose to use the Safe Travels collection from Simple Stories.
August Sketchy Challenge
I like to rotate the sketch to see if the elements suit my pictures better or sometimes I just visually prefer it better
Creative process when using a sketch
I like to get my general placement of photos and papers and snap a photo so when I deconstruct to permanently place things I know where they go! Too many times I have walked away and forgotten. You will se in my final layout, I opted to add some color vellum to the right side to ‘send’ the busy pattern to the background. I do this often when I LOVE a paper but find it ‘too much’.
adapting a sketch / August Sketchy Challenge
I have highlighted how I was inspired by the sketch. The photo placement started the same as the rotated sketch. The big letter became a large title. The placement of the die cut words are beside the lower picture. The group of three elements kind of mimics the three circles.
Simple Stories / Safe Travels collection / puffy stickers
How I added LOTS of product – my checklist is made up of puffy stickers, I also added little puffy stickers, chipboard die cuts and enamel dots throughout
Simple Stories / Safe Travels collection
…more puffy stickers = using LOTS of product

Thanks for stopping by the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog to check out my layout. I hope it makes you look at sketches a bit differently I see sketches as a stepping stone to creative fun!
