The Winter 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine was filled with wintery, Christmasy ideas AND a fabulous tutorial on how to use Spectrum Noir Markers written by our beloved Christy Riopel. In this issue Christy walked you through a few basic techniques using Spectrum Noir markers and then demonstrated a real crazy technique using rubbing alcohol that I will share on another day! LOL! Sorry!!!!! Today I am sharing with you a layout Christy designed for the article demonstrating how to crete a Halo Effect with your Spectrum Noir markers or any alcohol based markers that you have on hand. Here is the stunning layout. Create a very subtle halo effect with your Spectrum Noir markers in a few very simple steps.  This very soft highlight really makes the photo on Christy’s layout pop from the page. Not to mention how incredibly stunning those poppies are! LOVE IT! Dust off…

Another Halloween season has come and gone. Today, as we sneak into our kids candy stash – camera in hands –  we slowly make our way through all the hundreds of photos we took over the last few days! With Twizzlers on my lips, I accept this challenge! Giggle giggle! Tracy McLennon has created a clean and classic layout to inspire you this Halloween scrappy season!  Chameleon Color Tone pens make it so easy to add a little doodle and color to your Halloween projects! Chameleon Products Tracy created the stunning doodle border strip on the above layout by simply using a Chameleon Detail pen. She then colored the doodles in using her Chameleon Color Tone pens. Now I know Tracy calls this doodling…. but if you are like me … I call it a work of art! Sure wish I could doodle like that. Chameleon Blog Tracy’s layout was…

Hello! Kim here again today shining our CSM spotlight on a company that is dear to our hearts, Heartfelt Creations! I hope to share some fun facts about this family company as well as a layout using their Tropical Paradise collection, just one of many favourite product lines they create.WHO THEY ARE This lovely family owned company got started in 1997 by Linda Bontrager, wearer of many hats: CEO, main artist, passionate scrapbooker, stamper, mother, wife…the list is long! I encourage you to read Linda’s fascinating letter about discovering and growing her passion for her creative life and family! I have always sensed that passion and love runs this company, even before taking the time to learn more about them, as women we often have good intuition! My thoughts are validated when I read this: “We exist to dynamically inspire, uplift, and add value to each person that comes in…

Hello “Sketchers”, Kerry Engel here, I wanted to say that I’ve been tickled by all the creative ‘takes’  posted in the  Sketchy Challenge gallery of each months sketchy challenge.August Sketch For those of you who enjoy when a sketch pushes all your creativity buttons, this month’s sketch should be right up your alley. 3-In-1 Challenge Once again, I’ve used the sketch to inspire you to create… 1. Scrapbook layout 2. Card 3. Journal Page As always, you can take the design literally or you can let it move you in a completely different direction.  If you are new to using sketches please know that they are merely meant to be sparks that help you get started on a project. Happy National Scrapbook Day! Kim here with a layout share using products from Wild Whisper Designs, Ranger Inks, Southern Ridge Trading Company and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L. I loved the ‘Adventure Collection’ from Wild Whisper Designs from the moment I started to see layouts being created with it shared online. It is so well suited for outdoorsy photos! I paired the papers up with some bear photos I had from a few years back! I am really happy with the finished result! I designed and cut my title using my electronic cutting machine and was thrilled that by chance it lined up perfectly with the design of the paper I placed behind for contrast…giving it a bit more visual texture! My journaling was done using a Ranger Ink Dylusions paint pen – you should try them out if you haven’t…I LOVE them! My bear and tree elements are from Southern…

Hi everyone, Kim here today. I just finished working on a layout using October 2016, sketchy challenge. If my memory is good…that means I have used every sketch from 2016! Bring on 12 more for 2017! I LOVE them. Here is October’s sketch; my starting point. My completed layout below makes me smile, I love the Simple Stories product I used…It’s whimsical and sweet. My layout started like many of mine do, on a piece of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s Superstock. I love to build up from the basics and seem to be drawn to the contrast the white gives me when playing with other products! My first layer was created using a TCW stencil and Clearsnap’s Colorbox chalk inks. From there, I positioned my picture. I will usually just add adhesive to the center back of my photo leaving the edges free to slip embellishments under. I added several little…

Hi everyone, Karen Ellis here. I recently enjoyed a fantastic weekend away scrapping with my bestie.  I took the opportunity to create an effortless layout based on the November Sketch with some papers I received in a goodie bag from Fancy Pants Designs. Here is the layout I created. Here is the Nov sketch I based it on. When was the last time you used our Sketchy Challenge? It’s such a great place to start the creative process. Of course we’d LOVE for you to also share to our Sketchy Gallery, to inspire others! I hope you take a minute and check out the layouts there and on Instagram (csmscrapbooker – #csmsketchygallery). Happy scrapping everyone! To See more of Karen’s work visit her blog The Art House Studio SUBSCRIBE TODAY to our quarterly publication – delivered right to your door!

Bo Bunny- Take A Hike – with Tracy McLennon Project Recipe: Bo Bunny  Take A Hike Collection patterned paper 6×6 pad buttons layered chipboard brads film sticker double dot cardstock Tombow Dual Brush 969 (Brown) Stamp Runner Adhesive Xtreme Adhesive Clearsnap ColorBox Spritzers- Pumpkin Pie, Grasshopper Chocolate ink May Arts Ribbon- Brown Mesh I LOVE working with fall colours! Who’s with me?? The warm earthy tones, that work with practically any type of photo. My layout today, focuses on one special photo. So I created a base of lots of layers of pattern and texture to showcase that special photo. Along the top border of patterned paper I added a line of coordinating decorative brads, for some additional texture. I added some simple splatters of my Clearsnap ColorBox Spritzers to the bottom left hand corner of my layered cardstock base. Do you LOVE to use ribbon on your layouts…

In loving memory of Christy Riopel – here is a page from our Fall 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine.  Christy was our regular Tool Junkie columnist. Each and every issue she showed our readers how to use a variety of different paper crafty tools.  In this issue she worked with the Simply Scored scoring tool from Stampin’ Up!  SUPPLIES: Fancy Pants Designs patterned paper, stickers and rub-ons, Bazzill Basics Paper cardstock, Marvy Gel pen, Quick Quotes ribbon, Clearsnap ink, Stampin’ Up! Simply Scored tool, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L. I love this layout and remember Christy creating it at a retreat we attended in Pigeon Lake, Alberta. I was so happy she included it in her Tool Junkie article. Thinking of you everyday Christy! Creative Scrapbooker Magazine is honoured to announce that we have started an ART Scholarship in Christy’s name. For those of you interested in honouring Christy Riopel and…

Hello, Connie Nichol here with a Halloween project featuring the Happy Haunting Collection from Simple Stories and two stamp sets from Quietfire Design.  My oldest son went through the ‘ghoul’ phase when he was 9 and 10 – he wanted only to be a scary masked ghoul with a weapon.  The scarier looking the weapon, the better.  Sigh. Gone were the cute animal or super hero costumes. Here’s the Simple Stories mini-kit I used: This is such a great kit!  Six sheets of double sided patterned paper and a 6×12 sheet of cardstock stickers is the perfect size to create a handful of Halloween layouts and cards without being overwhelmed. Here’s the Quietfire Design stamp sets I used – there are 9 stamps in the Crows set and even more in the Halloween Wicked collection!  It’s nice to have so many stamps to choose from – big and little, crows facing right…
