Sizzix Eclips2 – Using SVG files Today I decided to try using some free SVG files I found on the internet.Β Β  An SVG file is kind of a universal format that can be imported into most electronic die cutting machines.Β  The possibilities are endless and files are widely available – there are even some free cut files on the Canadian Scrapbooker website!Β  Check these out hereΒ  http://www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/cut-files/.Β Β  If you google β€˜free svg files’ you will begin to get an idea of some of the images that are available.Β  There are even more wonderful svg files available for a small fee.Β Β  A couple of great websites that I have discovered so far are http://www.misskatecuttables.com/ and http://svgcuts.com/blog/. In order to cut svg files with the Sizzix Eclips2, you must upgrade the Ecal β€˜lite’ software that comes with the machine to the full featured Ecal software.Β  This costs around $60 but having it…

One of my favourite things is truly a scrapbook layout about anything CANADIAN!Β  IΒ sincerely have a soft spot for this beautiful country I call home. Over the next few weeks I will be highlighting some layouts our design team created about their hometowns! I LOVE THEM ALL (Yep the layouts and the wonderful girls on my team)! Meet Desiree Saskiw DesireeΒ has been apart of Canadian Scrapbooker MagazineΒ for approximately 1 year asΒ one of our Guest Designers!Β  She does beautiful work that is always so well thought out and unique to all our page calls.Β  We LOVE Desiree’s creativitiy! Β  THANK YOU Desiree for sharing your work with us! Here is Desiree’s take on our page call “My Hometown”. It is about the small little block she lives on in Two Hills, Alberta. Lucky gal to have such GREAT neighbors! SUPPLIES: Heartfelt Creations patterned paper, Prima Marketing vintage trinkets, Karen Foster Design…

Meet Kim Gowdy Kim has been apart of Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine almost since the beginning! She was most definitely our biggest cheerleader from day 1 andΒ over the yearsΒ has become an important part of our online presence, design team and editorial planning.Β  THANK YOU Kim! Here is Kim’s take on our page call “My Hometown” SUPPLIES: Bazzill Basics Paper cardstock, FabScraps patterned paper, Sizzix dies andΒ Big ShotΒ die CuttingΒ machine, Stampin’ Up! buttons, Clearsnap ink, May Arts twine, Xyron Create-A-Sticker adhesive. To create this layout Kim used some gorgeous barnwood like paper from FabScraps Beachcomber Collection.…

I am just loving some of the new Spellbinders Shapeability dies that were released this winter.Β  The die set β€œShoot”, a set of five arrow dies, actually inspired this layout.Β  Because arrows made me think about directions, I googled β€˜direction quotes’ and found a perfect quote for a scrapbook page.Β  There were a lot of great quotes to choose from but I’m thinking that arrows are the perfect touch for many projects.Β  A very versatile die set.Β  Spellbinders also manufactures my favourite alphabet die sets – the font one upper and lower case sets are the perfect size and style for many projects.Β  Just love them.Β  When you make your own letter stickers, you never run out of β€˜a’s. Adhering small or delicate die cuts can be tricky, but a Xyron Create-a-Sticker makes the process incredibly easy.Β  I turned all of my Spellbinder die cuts into stickers so that they…

Chalkboard embellishments are all the rage right now and I love Core-dinations ColorCore cardstocks new Chalk Core Paper for making my own embellishments! I used Core’dinations Color Core cardstock, Spellbinders dies, Clearsnap Izinks, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Simple Stories stickers, Prima Marketing flowers, Xyron Sticker MakersΒ and Marvy gel pens. I cut out and embossed several shapes from the Chalk Core paper using my dies. To make it easier to sand the very fine cuts I first ran them through my Xyron sticker maker. Leaving the cut out on the backing I then sanded the embossed die cuts making them look like beautiful fine chalk work!! I then added them to my layout over a layer of Clearsnap Izinks. I added a very old, vintage photo of myself that I recently stumbled upon. Many people ask me what they should do differently with their older photos…my answer is nothing, do…

Happy July 1st everyone!Β  Connie Nichol here with a patriotic red and white Canada Day layout.Β  I was briefly tempted to use non-traditional colours, but just couldn’t do it.Β  LOL I used the July Canadian Scrapbooker sketchy challenge sketch as a starting point.Β  It looks like this: I decided to start with a base of Core’Dinations Spotted cardstock.Β  It looks so lovely and textured, especially when you sand a tiny bit off of the top. The other day I saw that Rhonda Steed had some free Canada day printables up on her blog (hot link www.rhondasteed.com) and I was totally inspired to use a couple of these project life typecards as part of my layout. Then, instead of reaching for patterned paper strips to follow the July sketch, I decided to use a variety of May Arts ribbon.Β  Sometimes ribbon is a pain to adhere to a layout, especially skinny…

Sizzix Frameworks Lattice Die Also featuring Garden Tool Sizzlits, Lil MonstersΒ  by Bo Bunny and Xyron Have you seen the new Frameworks dies from Sizzix?Β Β  Designed by Tim Holtz, they were just released last month in five fabulous patterns.Β  I am especially excited that they are the thick steel rule dies, meaning that in addition to cutting through paper, Β they can also easily cut through all fabric, foam, felt, wood veneer and other non-paper items, giving the frugal or mixed media scrapbooker lots of flexibility! Β Β And you can use the framework die cut itself, or the pieces cut out of the framework die (like the diamonds or hexagons) to mix and match. The Lattice Frameworks remindedΒ  of gardening, so I thought I would combine it with the Garden Tools Sizzlits that I had in my stash. I cut the tools out of a scrap piece of cardstock and then used…
