Hi everyone Noreen Smith here today. So glad to be on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog today to share a not-so-spooky double page Halloween layout I created with Creative Memories’ Toil and Trouble Collection! It is really the cutest Halloween collection I’ve seen in a long time and I am loving the color scheme – the various oranges paired with the aqua and turquoise are so refreshing, and I really like that there are some versatile floral and geometric patterns that don’t scream Halloween!
The collection features a Paper Pack, Stickers, a foiled Album cover and – wait for it – PHOTO-SAFE WASHI TAPE! Yes! Leave it to Creative Memories to make a photo-safe washi tape that we can feel good using on our archival scrapbook pages! I’m also thrilled about the return of an old favorite – the Pumpkins Border Maker Cartridge. If you have the original Pumpkin BMC, don’t worry – this one is slightly different, so go ahead and add it to your collection. You can never have too many pumpkins in my opinion! These products were so much fun to work with, especially for Halloween photos of my boys from several years ago when they wore cute costumes and not scary ones! Here is the double page layout that I created.
I used two pieces of Black Cardstock as the base for my double page layout. I trimmed one of the Aqua Hexagon papers from the Toil and Trouble Paper Pack in half with the 12” Straight Trimmer to make two 6” x 12” pieces, which I adhered across the middle of each page. I added 1 2” x 10” strip of the Black Triangles paper above and below each aqua rectangle, and then covered the seam where the two papers met with a Pumpkin Border punched from the Orange Marigold paper.I matted my 4” x 6” photographs with White Cardstock, but adhered the matt for the 4” x 4” photo directly to the layout, and layered the photo on top with a hinge made from the Black Polka Dot Washi Tape. This creates a fun interactive element for the layout! (Tip: once you put your layout inside your Page Protector or Large Pocket Page, carefully cut a slit with an Exacto knife so your interactive flap can be fed through the slit, allowing the viewer to lift it while they are looking through your album!) Two 3” x 4” pieces of the Orange Marigold paper were added to each side of the layout along to serve as a base for a couple of embellishments clusters using the super-cute stickers, some of which I popped up off the surface with Foam Squares. I cut one of the white arrow border stickers and placed it so it could draw attention right across the layout. To finish it off, I cut several .5” x 3” journaling strips from White Cardstock, wrote my journaling with my Black Dual-Tip Pen and added another piece of washi tape and a few gems I had leftover in my stash from previous CM Embellishment Packs. And if you are looking for some more ideas of how to use CM’s Photo-Safe Washi Tape, check out this video I made to show you 10 other ways to Washi!
