Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday!
Kerry Engel here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog playing with my Brother ScanNCut electronic cutting machine. Stickers, gotta love ‘em. They are the backbone of contemporary scrapbooking. They really deserve a shout-out for the role they play in helping us to tell our stories in our scrapbooks.
Twenty-three years ago when I started scrapbooking it was all about adding stickers to your pages and they still play a pivotal role in my creative expressions. That said, stickers can do more than stick, they can be very versatile.
I have a sticker hack for creating next-level stickers. Here’s how I create my own sturdier ‘cardstock’ elements from stickers, to help me to create design clusters that really pop. To create this clustered tag I needed different weights of the various elements (ie. Stickers). I create my own ‘card stock’ sticker elements with the Brother ScanNCut and some Simple Stories stickers from the Simple Vintage Coastal collection. These stickers have a white border, using the Brother ScanNCut I’m able to mount the sticker on the cardstock and cut out the sticker directly along the edge with no white border.
- Adhere your stickers to a piece of Therm O Web Gina K. Designs Premium Cardstock 120lb weight.
- Place the Cardstock on the Brother ScanNCut Low Tack Adhesive Mat. Load the mat into the Brother ScanNCut.
- Choose “Scan to Cut Design” and proceed with scanning and cutting out the images. There are many detailed videos on Youtube to help you through the process.
The Brother ScanNCut is so accurate, it cuts directly on the edge of the design. No more white border. This is important for me when I’m creating clusters, especially with the realistic stickers from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Coastal collection
To add more dimension to my cardstock elements I run a Tombow Marker along the side to hide the white cardstock edge. Because I’ve put my stickers on cardstock I am able to use them to build layers and depth. This is how I’m able to create clusters that really pop! I use Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Creative Sheets to the back of some of my new elements to help build depth in my cluster. For some, I add 2-3 layers of Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Creative Sheets (scandalous :)) to get the right height.
I completed this layout using other elements from the Simple Stories Simple Vintage Coastal collection. I actually ended up doing 7 layouts with this collection. It’s been perfect for my Kauai vacation photos. Have a wonderful day everyone!
