Hello friends! It’s Noreen from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com here to share a fun idea using a super fun collection – the new Sparks of Magic Collection from Creative Memories! With all it’s bright colors and fun icons, it’s the perfect collection to document all your favorite moments from trips to amusement parks and fairs, family getaways and countless other adventures! I hate to admit it, but I am not always efficient at scrapbooking photos from our family vacations right away. In fact, I documented a trip to Disneyland that my family and I took in 2019 BEFORE I had finished scrapbooking the photos of our 2013 trip! Yikes! So when I saw this collection, I knew it was high time to get the rest of those photos into my albums and decided to make some quick layouts using the Multi-Pocket Pages. They allow you to create almost instant pages by simply sliding photos and the Spark of Magic Variety Mat Cards (or any other mat pack cards) into the pockets! I also pulled out the new Starry Border Maker Cartridge, the Original Border Maker System and some Cranberry, Goldenrod and Black cardstock to create some bright accents and starry “confetti” to make one of the pockets into a Shaker pocket! After choosing a journal card and a title card from the Variety Mat Pack that would work with the three 6” x 4” and two 4” x 6” pockets on the Multi-Pocket Pages, I went ahead and punched two 12” borders with the Original Border Maker System, and the Stars Border Maker Cartridge. I saved all the little stars that were punched out and then cut one border to 5/8th” and the other to ½ “ wide. Because of the configuration of the photo pockets in the Multi-Pocket Page there are two narrow channels on either side. Most times I use them I like to carefully cut a slit in the top of each channel with a ruler and Exacto knife and then slip a piece of decorative paper – or in this case the Star border strips – into the channels for some extra color and pattern. TIP: Use the flat edge of the Multi-Purpose Tool to keep the channel open and help slide the strip in! Now onto the Shaker Pocket! Although I had red and yellow stars “confetti”, I also wanted some black to coordinate with the designs on the Variety Mat Pack Cards, so I used the Border Maker Housing and Starry Border Maker Cartridge as a freehand punch and punched a scrap piece of black cardstock several times to get my black star confetti! Then I placed all my confetti into the pocket where my title card was going to go, mixing them up a little bit and trying to spread them throughout the pocket. Sealing the pocket closed so the confetti wouldn’t come out was my biggest challenge here. If you have a Fuse Tool, you can heat it up and use it to melt the melt the plastic together to seal, but I wanted to see if I could come up with a way to adhere the pocket shut. After some trial and error on a multi-pocket page (that was ultimately recycled!) I came up with a way to seal the pocket shut using Vellum Adhesive! Here’s how to do it: Apply a very even line of Vellum Adhesive from top to bottom of Variety Mat Pack card as close to the edge that will be near the opening of the pocket as you can. Flip the card over and place onto a piece of Parchment Paper – yes, the kind from your kitchen! – and apply the Vellum Adhesive in the same way to the opposite side of the card. Lift the card up – the adhesive will not stick to the Parchment Paper! – and then carefully place the card into the pocket with the adhesive just inside the opening of the pocket. Seal the pocket by rubbing your finger along the edge with the adhesive…the vellum adhesive will seal the pocket and although it’s not completely invisible, it certainly doesn’t distract from the card and the confetti! How fun! All that was left to do was to write my journaling onto the other mat card and slip it and the photos into their spots. There are SOOOO many ways you could adapt this idea to suit your photos, theme and supplies…the possibilities for fun Shaker Pocket pages are endless. And what an easy, fast and fun way to get those photos into your albums. I hope you give it a try!
