Hello! It’s Noreen from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com today to share a fun and crafty layout with you today! Since I was in New Orleans back in November, and Mardi Gras is just around the corner, this is the perfect time to share a layout featuring the new “Let the Good Times Roll” Paper Pack and Masquerade Border Punch from Creative Memories! These items (and a gorgeous coordinating Album cover!) were created to commemorate the CM Incentive Trip for Advisors to New Orleans Louisiana (NOLA) that I was lucky enough to attend! The purple, green and gold are traditional Mardi Gras colors and the page of cut aparts featured all the fun things we did during our time there! Inspired by the mask in one of the cut aparts and on the Border Punch, I decided to create my own larger paper mask for a layout about visiting the Mardi Gras Museum where we made our own masks! To make my paper mask, I hearkened back to my art school days where we used various drafting templates to create swirls and shapes. I pulled out the heart-shaped templates from the Gemstones Custom Cutting System and used the “dip” in the large heart to create the dip in the mask by tracing it onto some copy paper with a pencil. Then I turned the heart and used the side of it to draw out to the temple of the mask. I turned it one more time and traced from the point of the heart up, to connect it to the temple. I drew a small freehand oval for the eye-hole, then folded the copy paper along the center line and cut out a perfectly symmetrical mask shape. This paper template was traced onto the Purple Burst paper and cut out with All-Purpose Scissors to create the mask itself.
With the mask complete I used the 12” Trimmer to cut strips from the Jazzy, Argyle and Striped papers to form the base of my layout. I punched one Masquerade border strip from the same Purple Burst paper I used for the mask and adhered it with the Repositionable Adhesive – which is perfect for intricate designs! I matted the two 6” x 4” photos onto the Gold NOLA paper and adhered that to the layout with regular Tape Runner Adhesive. I finished off the mask design by trimming a 1/3” piece of the Gold Nola paper to use as a handle, and cutting several swirls that were drawn onto scraps of patterned paper to add to the side of the mask to mimic feathers or streamers. For the title and journaling box, I mounted some White Cardstock onto the Green Fleur De Lis paper and then mounted the “NOLA The Big Easy” title from the cut apart sheet across the centre of it. Tip: Cut one of the two cut apart sheets into all the components to use for titles and embellishments, then use the second sheet for the beautiful Striped pattern on the opposite side! I added a few more hand cut swirls and finished off the layout with coordinating self-adhesive gems from previous CM collections that I had in my stash (Electric Summer and Christmas Spirit, both now retired) Have you been to New Orleans or experience Mardi Gras? If so, you’ll definitely want this collection to document all your adventures! “Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler” – Let the Good Times Roll!
