Hello everyone – Sally Lynn MacDonald here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog.
I love art journaling โ but I really love capturing memories in my journal. The hardest part about keeping a journal is getting started and that is where Iโve come up with a way of getting past the fear of the blank page and freeing myself to create by monoprinting on the blank pages.ย My favorite travel journal is a landscape watercolor paper journal.
Iย like this journal for the size of and the type of paper inside the journal.
To start, I will choose a color scheme that complements the travel theme but doesnโt overwhelm. These are backgrounds, so they need to be somewhat subtle. For my colors I chose:
Goldenโs Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold (a sunny color!)
Goldenโs Titan Green Pale (a very light, almost white green)
Goldenโs Titanium White (pure, bright white)
Pebeoโs Iridescent Blue Black (for contrast and shimmer)
Prima Art Alchemy Opal Magic Green-Gold
I use a 5โ x 7โ Gel Press plate. It is slightly smallerthan my journal pages, leaving open areas for drawing, painting and journaling on each page.
}I create my page backgrounds using stencils with beach and sunny motifs. ย And I often mask off areas of the page to leave them open for adding to later.

These are some of the resulting prints.

I pack a small tote and itโs off to the beach!ย This is my favorite place to sit and sketch.
But I like to wander, gather fronds and shells and sit down to capture other scenes from the beach in my journal too. Here are some pages that Iโve added painting to.

I hope you find some inspiration in my travel journal pages. Itโs easy to get past the blank page and focus on your surroundings. I find the memories from my trip are that much more etched into my mind when Iโve spent time drawing and painting them; and especially more so when Iโve done some nature printing with plants that I donโt have at home.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Sally

I love these art journal pages and the idea of creating the backgrounds ahead of time. Thank you for sharing. i have wanted to start art journaling for quite some time. I am a Coach with Fun Stampers Journey and the Gel Press is a new product in our 2017-2018 catalog and is on my list for my first order. I cannot wait to try this.
