Art journaling , for me, looks rather intimidating. There are so many layers of goodness that I often have no idea where to start. Like this page from Consie Sindet for The Crafter’s Worshop that features stenciling. Stenciling I am constantly on the look out for easy to follow videos on art journaling that I can follow along and replicate. Through the years I have come to the conclusion that one of the easiest places to start is with stenciling. 3-In-1 July Sketch Challenge

Hello everyone – Kerry Engel here! With the start of a new month – brings us our monthly sketch challenge. Here is July’s sketch… Six photos on one page! This is a great layout for telling a visual story. Clustering the pics tightly on the left and keeping the right side empty balances the design. Succulent Summer LayoutMy daughter and I have a lot of succulents. The Simple Stories Summer Days Collection was perfect for our springtime ritual. I created the “succulent” title and white border (based on the sketch) on my cutting system. I filled in the flowers with different papers from the collection. June 3-IN-1 Sketchy Challenge by Kerry Engel

Hello everyone, Kerry Engel here with one sketch – three different projects. This is a good sketch for a big or dominant photo that really tells your story. The curvy diagonal lines create movement and energy. Supplies: Creative Memories Cap and Gown Collection, Clearsnap ColorBox ink and embossing powder, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Stampin’ Up! gold thread, Studio Calico brad. An old Colleague of mine posted her graduation photos on Facebook one day and I instantly had an urge to scrap them. The Cap and Gown collection from Creative Memories has several “2107” embellishments but it’s really a versatile collection. The colors work really well with vintage photos. I glammed it up a bit with gold embossing powder and shiny brads and thread. The papers held up well to mix media techniques. And the coordinating album is a really classy. Art Journaling with Stabilo and Nicole Wright

Hello, Nicole here and I am so excited to share my new journal pages using Stabilo. I was sent a set of Woody 3 in 1 pencils to create with. These are new to me so I was very curious how they would handle my love of watercoloring. They far surpassed my expectations! They are smooth to put on these old pages, creamy enough to blend and don’t washout when watercoloring. Check out my quick and easy tutorial for stamping and watercoloring with Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 pencils.I prepared my old book pages with Ranger’s Clear Gesso. Once dry I stamped the Garden Flower stamps randomly then started adding colour with the Stabilo Woody pencils. You can easily move the colour around by smearing with your fingers.This is my first time so I wanted to try the pencils in different ways. I tried blending and they blend beautifully. How you Bean… Nicole here and I am sharing my Art Journal pages in my 115 year old book! ACK… I know it’s old but it is so much fun. Not everything I get in the mail is something I would normally create with. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the challenge of making this my own style. It creatively opens my mind up and pushes my limits. I picked this pretty spring paper Lawn Fawn Perfectly Plaid Rainbow Petite Paper pack. I do love plaid. I stamped on the pattern paper and wait for it… fussy cut. All those jelly’s stamped and yes, more fussy cutting. I wanted to layer and stack the jars. Trimming the beans so they spill the way the jars tilt. ACK… trying the new Ranger Distress Oxide Ink by watercoloring the jelly’s. Love them!!! Time to make this easy and my Xyron Create a Sticker to adhere all these jelly…

March Sketchy Challenge with Kerry Engel

It’s a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? I’m still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that it’s about ‘playing’ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense. Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. That’s where having a sketch as a launching point helps. Here is a blog post from April 2012 that Christy created – in her words. She sure loved art journaling – and we sure loved what she created. I was recently asked, “Why should a scrapbooker take time to art journal?” The answer is simple. An art journal is a place to make mistakes, experiment with mediums, looks, and just play. Very often I take ideas I have developed in my art journal and turn them into Scrapbook pages. I took the above page and turned it into this layout. Bible Journaling with BoBunny & Lynn Shokoples

Hi Everyone! It’s Lynn Shokoples here today to share a page in my Bible I made featuring the BoBunny Believe Collection. There is also a video tutorial to show how the page came together. I hope you enjoy! So let’s get started For this page I used the 12×12 Patterned Paper from the BoBunny Believe Collection called “Divine”. On one side are fun elements to cut out, but on the flipside are fun black & white flowers . I cut a margin strip from the paper and some extra flowers. I added some color using my Prismacolor and Polychromo Pencil Crayons. For the background I took a Caran D’Ache NeoColor II crayon and used it for a watercolor effect. After it was dried, I used the new Transparent Gel from BoBunny to adhere the strip and the flowers to my bible! The Transparent Gel is a fabulous product. It’s not…
