Nothing is more exciting than new markers!!! I feel like a little kid. Canuck Crafts Spectrum Noir Markers has improved and revamped their alcohol markers. I love the little rubber grips and the bigger ink reservoirβ¦. Yet they are still very reasonably priced. I used these markers to create this great background for my art journal page. I have to confess that I have never taken any formal training in colouring with alcohol markersβ¦ I will share my hack way of colouring. 1. I started by stamping this poppy from Stampendous in black Memento ink. 2. I choose 3-5 colours that are in a similar family…from a very light to very dark. I donβt really pay attention too closely to the numbers (though they are great for a beginner). I start by colouring the lightest part of the image with a light colour. 3. I…
Upcycling Pop Cans to Make Embossed βTin Panelsβ by Christy Riopel I was inspired by old tin ceiling panels when I created this page. I love how they go with the vintage feel of the photo. Supplies: Fancy Pants Designs patterned paper and stickers, Spellbinderβs dies and embossing folders, gesso, Stephanie Barnard for Clearsnap ink sprays, Beacon Adhesives 3in1 glue and Decoupage gloss sealer, Bazzill Basics Paper cardstock, marvy gel pen. To make the panels I cut the top and bottom off a pop can and down the side. I then took my Spellbinders embossing folder and embossed the metal from the can. I then painted it with gesso and let it dry. I sprayed it with Stephanie Barnard for Clearsnap Ink sprays and when they were almost dry I sealed them with Beacon Adhesives spray on Decoupage Gloss Sealer. This keeps the colours vibrant. Β I sanded some of…
Β Making a Ribbon Mat for Your Page I love the texture of ribbons and I am always looking for a new way to use it on my page. In this layout I created a mat with pieces of May Arts ribbons. I started with Be CreativeΒ Sookwang double sidedΒ tape,Β a big pile of awesome May Arts ribbon and a piece of scrap chipboard. I then put two strips of tape down each side of the chipboard. I cut several strips of ribbon just a bit longer then the chipboard. I attached the strips to the tape on one side. Wrapped it around the front and then attached it to the other side. I added some sheer ribbons and smaller ribbons over top of the first layer to make it even more textured. My finished mat was then beautiful and ready to attach to my page. Beautiful,…
Welcome to Part 7 of a 10-part series calledΒ Where We Scrap, where our bloggers share their scrap space with you. Β This week, Christy Riopel is sharing her space. Hi all, welcome to my studio. I am very blessed to have such an amazing space. It is basically our bonus room and overlooks the front of our house. Here is the entrance to my space. The door you see is my laundry room. The shelf unit is two units stacked on top of each other. In these drawers, I store all my scrapbooking stash, like stickers and rub-ons and such. On top I store some extra craft supplies and handmade papers. This is a basket of finished cards ready to use. The next wall is filled with shelving and stores a whole bunch of stuff. Baskets filled with tools. Rubber cling and acrylic/polymer stamps are stored on plastic file folders.…
By Christy Riopel I took this shot at a very unusual event last summer. It was a head shaving party for my 16 year old daughterβs best friend. Victoria was diagnosed with cancer and though her prognosis was favourable she would have to undergo treatments and that would mean she could lose her hair. Now as an adult it is easy to say, βBetter her hair then her lifeβ, but to a teenage girl it must have been horrifying. SUPPLIES: Stampinβ Up! patterned paper, ink, stamps, pen and adhesives. Not her though, she took charge of the situation and threw a party, and shaved her head. Her courage was amazing and inspiring and this photo was so special to me. It required just the right paper that showed the strength of her heart and the beauty of her face. Using Stampinβ Up! paper and stamps I was able to…
