Hello everyone, Kerry Engel here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog playing with the Explorer Journal by Momenta. When I first saw this glittery Momenta journal I envisioned a metallic-y, jewel-studded boho book. I was thinking of gold glitter, soft jute, and beach beads. To achieve my boho look I took apart an old necklace to create dangling embellishments and I strung beads on a fishing wire. I tied lots of jute and attached tags that protruded and extended over the sides. The Explorer Journal is made of a heavy, sturdy, leather-like fabric. To embroider on it I pre-punched holes with an awl. I stitched the flowers using the lazy daisy stitch and cotton thread. I learned how to embroider from my Baba (grandmother) way back in the ’70s when boho first was cool. Shiny brads completed my front cover. I wanted to cover up the stitches on the…
Hey everyone, Kim here! I’m sharing a simple layout today celebrating some of the yummy foods we enjoyed during a recent trip to Kauai. The layout itself is very basic, starting with a grid of four photos, offset to the right. I adhered my photo grid on top of two cardstock papers from some older Momenta stacks that I had from last year. The fun starts when I look for embellishments to add interest! Momenta has some wonderful dies. I was lucky enough to have three sets that played really well together and YES, one was the Christmas wreath! I easily cut the words out of the center and it was the perfect size to layer with my pineapple and flower die cuts! The “KAUAI” title was cut using the alpha dies, I love the font and size! All of the dies were cut from Brea Reese Mixed Media paper.…

Kim Gowdy here today with a fun little, mixed media tag to share. I love that all these wonderful mixed media products have oozed into the scrapbooking and card making world. Do you? I believe that any hobby that we stick with for a long time needs to challenge us to keep us interested and engaged. Scrapbooking continues to do just that for me…from my photography to trying new products and techniques, this industry still holds my interest after 12 years! Let’s take a peek at my tag and process. Let’s create the base! Thanks for joining me. I love how my tag turned out. I’m not sure yet how I will use. It may become a scrapbook page element, I may tuck it into an art journal or I may use it on a bottle of wine to give to my hubby to celebrate a milestone anniversary. The photo…
Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a scrapbook layout featuring Brea Reese watercolor inks and FREE Dingbats! These watercolor inks are intense little bottles of color, and so much fun to use to create page backgrounds and color embellishments. I had a pile of photographs from a trip to Portugal this past April and grabbed a couple of them to scrapbook. Yes, I am old school and print out most of the pictures that I take, so I always have lots of 4×6 photographs on my desk. I created the middle part of the page by simply wetting a square of watercolor paper with water, and then brushing with a few drops of yellow and blue Brea Reese watercolor inks. The colors spread across the wet watercolor paper to give a beautiful effect. For the fruit embellishments, I printed out fruit dingbats from a free font called KR Fruitsy onto…
Hello everyone, Kerry Engel here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog. I’ve been playing a lot with Brea Reese watercolor inks. They are very bright and beautifully transparent. The glitter inks are just yummy. They are perfect for making the galaxy paintings that you see all over Instagram and Pinterest. Brea Reese watercolor inks are dye-based ink and they dry quickly. They are very concentrated…a little goes a long way. If you put them in a paint pallet they will dry in the pallet and when you come back later with a wet brush you can re-activate them. To make this card download a mermaid tail and turned it into a stencil. You could use any large silhouette type shape with this technique. Large flowers work well too. To begin, trace the tail onto watercolor paper. Use the rough side of 140 Lb, cold pressed watercolor paper. Paint the inside of…
