Hello everyone, Kerry Engel here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog playing with the Explorer Journal by Momenta. When I first saw this glittery Momenta journal I envisioned a metallic-y, jewel-studded boho book. I was thinking of gold glitter, soft jute, and beach beads. To achieve my boho look I took apart an old necklace to create dangling embellishments and I strung beads on a fishing wire. I tied lots of jute and attached tags that protruded and extended over the sides.
The Explorer Journal is made of a heavy, sturdy, leather-like fabric. To embroider on it I pre-punched holes with an awl. I stitched the flowers using the lazy daisy stitch and cotton thread. I learned how to embroider from my Baba (grandmother) way back in the ’70s when boho first was cool. Shiny brads completed my front cover.
I wanted to cover up the stitches on the inside cover so I created a pocket from Momenta patterned paper.
The fun thing about the Explorer Journal is that you can add additional notebooks or signatures inside that let you build a customized journal. These additional notebooks come with different types of paper – lined, blank or graph. Momenta patterned papers coordinate beautifully with the Kraft colored notebooks. To build my layout I used Art-C tags, stamps, and the Art-C ephemera pack called ‘Faith’.
I used Glue Dots to adhere everything and inked the edges with Clearsnap ColorBox, Dyestress Ink.
To add details and journalling I used Brea Reese Fine Liner pens.
I adhered tags from Art-C to random pages throughout the album. I made sure they extended off the pages creating tabs and I finished it off by tying jute fibers to the tags.
I layered scraps of ribbon and burlap on my layouts to create more interest and the Explorer Journal Collection comes with coordinated binder clips that work great to keep your pages closed.
I made sure my elements were thoroughly attached so that my journal can be hauled around safely. It’s ready to house some memories and art!
