Hi everyone! Noreen Smith here from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com with a double page sketch for you! I had so much fun with this sketch that I couldn’t just make one layout based on it…I had to make three! And I was happy to use three of the newest new paper collections from Creative Memories – Oh, Canada!, Star-Spangled and Brave – to do so. All three of these fantastic paper packs are perfect to use during the summer months to celebrate upcoming patriotic holidays, summer picnics and BBQs, camping and outdoor adventures, and heroes of every kind!I love creating simple and versatile layouts that I call “1-2-3 layouts” because they use just one piece of double-sided patterned paper, two pieces of cardstock or album pages for the base and are made with just three cuts. Here’s the sketch:And here’s the cutting guide:It’s sooo easy and quick– cut your double sided 12” x 12” paper in half with a 12” Straight Trimmer, and then stack the two 6” x 12” pieces. Cut through both pieces at 3” to create a total of four 3” x 12” strips. Keep two of the strips stacked and snip out a triangle shape from the edge of them both to create banner strips. And being the thrifty scrappers that we are, we’ll save the snipped triangles and use them as accent pieces for our layout.
Turn over one strip, one banner and one triangle to show the opposite pattern, then arrange all pieces on the layout as shown. Add your standard 4” x 6” photos (no cropping required!) some simple embellishments, journaling and a title. Fast and easy! You can download a free printable featuring the sketch, cutting guide and a sample of the finished layout from the shop on my blog.
Now let’s take a look at how each layout can look just a little bit different by making a couple of tweaks. This layout uses paper from the Star-Spangled paper pack, red cardstock, white cardstock scraps and some retired heart punches I had in my stash. I punched the “Made in the USA” circle title, and fussy cut the decorative heart from one of the other papers in the pack.I used paper from the Brave paper pack for this layout along with navy cardstock, white cardstock scraps and star punches from my stash. I fussy cut the letters to spell “Hero”, and punched the gray and navy stars from other papers in the pack. Because the title was so big, I cropped the top photo to 4” x 4”. I also used a single piece of white cardstock for my journaling box instead of several small banner strips. The last layout uses a favorite paper from the Oh Canada! paper pack, black cardstock, red and white cardstock scraps and the fantastic Maple Leaf Punch. I created the title with the Black Script ABC/123 Stickers.
There you go: one sketch – three ways! I do hope you’ll download this free sketch and cutting guide and try it yourself to see just how versatile it is for yourself!
