Hi everyone! Noreen from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com here. I hope that you are staying home and staying safe during this time. Many of us are passing the time being creative with paper crafting and memory-keeping projects: I’ve been working my way through vacation photos from our trip to sunny Southern California last year which I have waaaay too many of, and I’m happy to be sharing a layout today that features a new product from Creative Memories that has helped me get more photos onto my vacation scrapbook pages!
Peekaboo Pockets are photo-safe transparent scrapbook pockets that can be adhered to your scrapbook page or protector with their self-adhesive strip and are the perfect way to add more memories and memorabilia! Although Creative Memories has offered Peekaboo Pockets in the standard 4” x 6” size for a while, I was so excited to see that they are now offering them in 5” x 7” AND 6” x 12” sizes! Since I had lots of photos from a whale-watching trip my family and I went on during our vacation, I decided that a 6” x 12” Peekaboo Pocket and the new “Picture This” Collection would be the perfect products to use to get as many photos as possible onto a double-page spread without it looking too cluttered or busy! The “Picture This” Collection is so versatile as it can be used to document ANY occasion! The fun photo-themed papers, stickers and embellishments showcases patterns like cameras, flash bursts, dots and snapshot sayings that will help create the picture-perfect page for any photos. Although this is not one of my 1-2-3 Layouts, I only used one piece of double-sided paper for it…I chose the camera patterned paper with dark blue diagonal stripes on the reverse side from the Picture This! Paper Pack and the Dark Sea Green Cardstock for my layout.
I cut the patterned paper into a 6” x 12” piece to fit inside the peekaboo pocket, then cut the remaining piece into two 2” x 12” and four .5” x 12” strips to use on the base pages. I used the new Stamping Blade in my 12” Trimmer to create a decorative edge on one side of the skinny border strips.
I created the base of the layout by alternating the patterned paper strips across the centre of both base pages and added the fun word border stickers from the Picture This! Sticker pack. I adhered eight photos that I matted on White Cardstock to help the photos stand out from the background.
I finished the left-hand side of the layout by creating a “pun-ny” title using White Sans Serif ABC/123 Sans Stickers on the dark blue border strip and accenting it with a sticker and die-cut embellishment. I wanted to add journaling to the right-hand side of the layout, so I cut out a rounded green journal box from one of the Picture This! Variety Mat Pack cards and used the Everyday Journal Template to trace journaling lines onto it with a pencil. I wrote my journaling with a Black Dual-Tip Pen and adhered a small cluster of stickers and an enamel heart to accent it. The card I cut the journal box from also had a date box, so I cut that out and added it to this page as well.
Now for the 6” x 12” insert! I used the four frames from the Picture This! Embellishments to mat the individual photos of each member of my family and placed two on the front side of the 6” x 12” strip and two on the back side. I used Black and White Sans Serif ABC/123 Stickers for the names under each photo and added a small embellishment cluster of stickers and enamel hearts to both sides of the insert. Then I inserted it into the large Peekaboo Pocket. I put the two base pages of the layout into 12 x 12 Top Loading Pocket Pages, then removed the tab to reveal the self-adhesive strip on the side of the Peekaboo Pocket and adhered it firmly to the jeeping on the right-hand Pocket Page. Adhering the pocket to the page protector or sleeve instead of the page itself will allow people to flip the pocket when they are looking through scrapbook albums.
I love how adding a Peekaboo Pocket not only creates space for four more photos – for a total of twelve full-sized photos on this layout! – but creates a fun interactive element in my scrapbook.
I know you will find lots of uses for these fun pockets!
Happy Scrapping!
