Hey there! It’s Noreen Smith here to share a layout using one of the new U.S. Destinations Paper Packs and Stickers from Creative Memories with you! The four destinations featured – as voted on by Creative Memories Advisors! – are Florida, Great Lakes, New York City and Washington, D.C., and of course these new paper packs and stickers will be great for documenting your trips to those destinations. But you might be surprised at how well they will work with lots of other types of layouts too! For example, my family and I recently spent some Spring break on Vancouver Island where we enjoyed hiking the Wild Pacific Trail and visiting the historic Amphitrite Lighthouse near Ucluelet, British Columbia. I knew the U.S. Destinations Great Lakes Paper Pack and Stickers featured lighthouses, so I set out to see if I could make the fun Great Lakes papers work with my very Canadian photos!
First, I tackled the U.S. Destinations paper with the geographical image of the Great Lakes printed in the upper right-hand corner. The back side of this paper was a subtle overall fish pattern, so I cut the paper right under the image with the 12-inch Trimmer.
Then I flipped the strip with the geographical image over to show the fish pattern on the opposite side, butted it tightly beside the larger piece showing the blue water pattern and added a few dabs of Tape Runner Adhesive across the seam to “weld” the two pieces together. (TIP: if you have some old washi tape that you don’t love, this is a great use for it!) Then I applied one of the blue seagull border sticker strips across the entire seam to firmly hold the two pieces together.
The “new” paper was now perfect for any kind of water photos! I could have used it as-is, but I decided to trim off ¼” from each side and mount it onto a 12 x 12 piece of Blue Cardstock for a bit of contrast and more stability. I also added a 10” x 3” strip of the fun lighthouse stamps paper above the sticker strip which added lots of personality and brought in a few more colors.
With the base page complete, all that was left to do was to mat my photos on some more of the Great Lakes papers and arrange them on the page and add some stickers. I also dug out the embellishments from CM’s Serene Waters collection (which was released last summer!) that features the same palette and imagery and found the perfect little journal box die-cut embellishment to layer under the stickers.
Overall, this was a quick layout to put together – even with the cutting and welding of the base page! I like how I was able to use a U.S. Destinations paper pack meant to highlight the Great Lakes area and adapt it to use with my photos, and I LOVE how it also works with previous CM collections – so versatile and useful!
No matter where you are travelling this summer, I’ll bet one of these U.S. Destinations mini-collections and other CM collections will work perfectly for you! Happy travels!
