#imbringingbirthdaysback It’s a movement. A movement supported by Shannon West and Stampin’ Up! A movement to make sure that people feel the love on their birthdays with handmade cards. It seems to be a perfect match for me. And certainly I don’t need another excuse to create a card. When Stampin’ Up! released the 2016 Occasions catalogue, I knew that I needed the Balloon Bouquet punch but I didn’t take it out of the package until now… and now I can’t stop playing with them. There are two balloon sizes in this punch. In addition, there’s an even smaller balloon punch with the Party Punch pack. I mean, really… these balloons will never get old. To create this card, I heat embossed several gold balloons from the Balloon Celebration stamp set on watercolour paper. Using my Stampin’ Up! markers and an Aquapainter, I coloured the balloons. After punching them out,…

Today on our blog, Kerry Engel is sharing some beautiful watercolour effects on her scrapbook page using Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I love making my own embellishments. This layout began with a doodled flower that I created last summer. I actually have a stash of Tombow flowers just waiting for a story that needs telling (and embellishing). It’s so easy to make your own embellishments with Tombow Dual Brush Pens. In this layout I used the Tombows to create the following accents: 1. Journaling strips 2. Watercoloured flowers 3. Hand lettered title. Make your own customized journaling strips 1. Layer different colors of Tombow ink on watercolour or mixed media paper. 2. Wash with water to create an ombre, watercolour effect. 3. Let it dry then run it through a printer. The first time round I cut the paper into thin journaling strips. I thought my hand lettering was too…

Watercolour is a hot trend right now that is seen everywhere in the crafting world, on our scrapbook pages, cards, and other projects. Sakura has wonderful, portable and affordable palettes that are perfect to bring along whether you’re going to the countryside, relaxing at the beach, or walking urban landscapes. These are called their Koi Watercolors Pocket Field Sketch Box. I also use this watercolour kit at home. There are 12-, 18-  24 and 30 color travel palette kits that include a refillable water brush and dabbing sponges. You can purchase 4X6″ watercolour paper pads or cut down larger sizes of watercolour paper if you are going to travel. To make this Easter card, I first used Clearsnap Ink and embossing powder to stamp and heat emboss this beautiful floral stamp from Impression Obsession. I stamped onto Bristol paper, which I find works well with both stamping and watercolour mediums.…

Can happiness be found in a big box of pens? If the box has “Sakura” on it, then YES!  Just hold a Sakura pen in hand and see what happens! There are so many varieties of Sakura pens that will suit all of your arts and crafts projects.  Let’s take a look at some of them. The Gelly Rolls are very popular for hand lettering, colouring, doodling….and so on. The gel ink rolls onto paper smoothly and beautifully. There are 5 types of Gelly Rolls. The ink in Gelly Roll® Classic Medium and Fine Point pens is archival, waterproof, fade resistant, and chemical proof, making it ideal for  scrapbooks, cards, and any illustration where permanance is important. The Stardust Gelly Rolls will add glitter sparkle to your projects. There is a Clear Stardust pen that lots of stampers enjoy using to add sparkle to their stamped images. Moonlight Gelly Rolls…

Today on our blog, Kerry Engel is sharing some wonderful projects and techniques using Magenta Nuance Powders. I’m one of those lettering people. Always playing with pens, practicing my down strokes, experimenting with different mediums. I’ve been playing with Nuance Powders since Christy Riopel introduced me to them at the Canadian Scrapbook Carnival in Edmonton last September. It’s a little embarrassing how happy the Nuance Powders make me. There are many ways to use the Nuance powders. Lately, I’m enjoying the unpredictable magic of tapping them onto pre-watered areas. It reminds me of the invisible messages we used to create with lemon juice when I was a kid. I’m using watercolour paper by Canson, cut to 4×6 size, Nuance ink and water. That’s it! 1. Choose a harmonious color family of ink. I used three colors. Poke a hole in the lids of your powders so that you can…

Hello everyone! It’s Kelly Klapstein here today to share a couple of Valentine cards I made using Chameleon Pens and NEW Core’dinations Glitter Prints paper. I visited the Chameleon Pens website www.chameleonpens.com and signed up for their free newsletter, which gives me access to monthly digital downloads like this Zentangle heart on my card. Once I downloaded this Zentangle heart, I printed it onto regular marker paper and Core’dinations NEW Glitter Prints cardstock.  The first card above was printed on regular paper, and the second one was printed and coloured on the Glitter Prints cardstock The Chameleon Pens colour the Glitter Prints paper beautifully, with no bleed through. To watch a demonstration of how I coloured this card with Chameleon Pens, visit us on Periscope @CSMscrapbooker and watch the replay video. (Periscope is a free Twitter App that you can join to watch all of our livestream videos!) Happy Valentine’s…

Planning and Organizing Your Project Life Scrapbooks with Cathy Caines I am a chronological scrapbooker. I mix traditional layouts and pocket pages. I don’t like to scrapbook in “order”. I jump from date to date, month to month – whatever inspires me in the moment. So, how can I achieve this without feeling overwhelmed? Ah ha. My “In Progress” album. It is my planner of scrapbooks. The “In Progress” album is a system I developed for myself but I know there are other memory keepers like me out there… and you need my help. It is an album that holds all my incomplete pages (and some completed pages) until they are ready to move into their final albums. It kind of looks like this – lots of Post-its™! How does this work? Once a month, I go through the following process: Step 1: Delete any photos that are taking up…

Well, the time we spent at CHA 2016 was inspiring, and seeing all the new releases sparked our creativity and imaginations! And it’s not all fun and games….we do lots of work on our phones too. There were a few more booths that we enjoyed visiting.  The Prima booth was beautiful as always: Spellbinders always has beautiful displays and staging. And you know how much we love walking into the rainbow of colour in the May Arts Ribbon booth! It was great to see Canada represent, too! Emerald Creek Craft Supplies had a booth and we stopped in to say hi to owner Kim Evans and Designer Nicole Wright. Emerald Creek manufactures metal charms and cling mounted rubber stamps.  Nicole has a new stamp release that is wonderful! Yes,  CHA 2016 was awesome! Our team loves spending time together, and California is always a nice destination with palm trees and…

Connie Nichol and I were really excited about our first morning at CHA, which started early with a breakfast and demo for the media in the Ranger booth. We spent 20 minutes with each of 4 designers….and the first one was Tim Holtz! At the demo tables, we learned all about the new releases for each designer’s line. Tim Holtz has a number of exciting new products. Everyone is excited about the Distress Crayons! Distress Crayons are formulated to achieve vibrant coloring effects on porous surfaces for mixed-media. The smooth water-reactive pigments are ideal for creating brilliant backgrounds, watercoloring, smudge effects and more. Colour directly onto your surface and blend with water then layer with Distress Inks or Stains for more creative possibilities. The crayons are available in 3 sets that coordinate with the Distress Palette. There are 3 new mediums that look amazing, and Tim demonstrated how to use each…
