Each and every week, we look back in time and remember the beautiful art of our late friend and colleague Christy Riopel. Christy’s designs are timeless. So many of her creations from way back when continue to inspire us today. This week we are looking back to a Text Talk article and the layout that Christy designed especially for the feature. In the 2015 Summer issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, we did an entire featuring on the language of smartphone…or as we called it Text Talk. We featured layouts that included everything from hashtags to abbreviations to smartphone graphics and emojis. This was such a fun theme…looking back it makes me think that we should revisit this page call and see how we are inspired by our smartphones today! Here is the layout that Christy designed for this feature. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel -…

Each and every week, we look back in time and remember the beautiful art of our late friend and colleague Christy Riopel. Christy’s designs are timeless. So many of her creations from way back when continue to inspire us today. This week we are looking back to the Winter 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this issue, Christy wrote a feature article on pocket scrapbooking. At the time pocket scrapbooking was just breaking ground and one of the hottest scrapbooking trends.  Who knew that this awesome form of memory keeping would continue to be a trendy way to scrapbook even today.  Pocket scrapbooking has undoubtedly, stood the test of time! Here is Christy’s article along with two projects that were featured in this article – enjoy. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel – we continue to raise money for the Christy Riopel Art Scholarship.…

This week we are visiting the fall 2015 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this issue, Christy Riopel had a ton of fun creating with Spellbinder dies and the Grand Calibur die cutting machine. One of the projects Christy created for this article, featured a cameo background she cut out using a die and a die cutting machine. So simple and so stunning. You will want to try this. Cutting A Cameo Background by Christy Riopel Sometimes it is nice to remove some of the background from a photo without cropping the entire image. This cameo style of cutting,  is a beautiful and unique technique that will allow you to do just that. 1. Hold the chosen circle or oval die over the photo. Cut along the part of the image that you want to keep from the outside edge in, making slits in the photo. 2. Weave the die into the photo,…

This week we are visiting the winter 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this issue, Christy Riopel did some SERIOUS designing with the Creative Memories Original Border Punch system. SHE ROCKED IT!  Here is just a sample of one the projects she created for her regular column – The Tool Junkie. This was the very last article that Christy wrote for Creative Scrapbooker Magazine before her passing in August of 2016. Using the Creative Memories Border Punch System to Create a Stencil 1. Load a cartridge that makes a set of holes as a border. Some punches work better for this than others. 2. Punch a strip into a thicker piece of cardstock. 3. Using a Clearsnap ColorBox stylus and white foam tip, sponge ink through the holes onto your project. 4. Repeat with other colours to finish off the background. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of…

Each and every week, we look back in time and remember the beautiful art of our late friend and colleague Christy Riopel. Christy’s designs are timeless. So many of her creations from way back when continue to inspire us today. Here is a double page layout that Christy designed in the Fall of  2015. This layout was created for a blog challenge Christy was participating in. This layout makes me – Happy/Sad. So very, very happy that she loved working with Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. So very, very happy that she created a layout expressing how she felt about her job with us. So very, very happy for this fabulous memory. And with this beautiful memory – a tear finds it way down my cheek. Forever missing you Christy. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel – we continue to raise money for the Christy Riopel Art…

Each and every week, we look back in time and remember the beautiful art of our late friend and colleague Christy Riopel.  Christy’s art was and still is timeless. So many of her creations from way back when are still hot and trendy today. Here is a blog post from over 6 years ago that Christy created for Creative Scrapbooker Magazine about recycling and embossing pop cans! AWESOME! Upcycling Pop Cans to Make Embossed “Tin Panels” by Christy Riopel I was inspired by an old tin ceiling panels when I created this page. I love how they go with the vintage feel of the photo. To make the panels I cut the top and bottom off a pop can and down the side. I then took my Spellbinders embossing folder and embossed the metal from the can. I then painted it with gesso and let it dry. I sprayed it…

Today we are looking back to the Fall 2015 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine in our weekly feature #RememberingChristy.  A timeless layout designed by Christy Riopel with a gentle reminder to Cherish the Little Things. This layout was featured in Christy’s regular column called “Tool Junkie”. Using Your Dies To Make A Stencil 1. Cut a piece of cardstock that is larger than your die. The more border around your die the better. Cut the die out of the centre of the cardstock. 2. On a palette, mix a little embossing paste and some acrylic paint. With a palette knife, scrape the tinted paste over the stencil. 3. Lift your cut stencil and let the paste dry, or dry with a heat tool. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel – we continue to raise money for the Christy Riopel Art Scholarship. To date – one…

Today we are going WAY back to the Fall 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. Each issue, for the past 12 years, we highlight a number of products that we think are HOT or products that our team members have fallen in love with and think you should –  most definitely – be playing with! Here is a look back to the Fall 2012 issue. What once was called “What’s Cool in Canada” and later become known as (and is still known as) “The Must List” . These were Christy Riopel’s product choices back then. Although Bazzill Basics Paper no longer manufactures this particular line of patterned paper – Spectrum Noir Markers are still on the market today. A sign that these markers have stood strong, against the test of time! Great choice Christy. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel – we continue to raise…

This week, in our regular #RememberingChristy segment, we are looking back to the Fall 2015 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. Christy Riopel was an avid art journaler. We could literally fill pages and pages of our magazine with her beautiful work. In the fall 2015 issue, she contributed one of her art journal pages to a feature we did on ‘The Joy of Journaling’.  This design would later become a staple in Chirsty’s art journaling classes. It was the first design she introduced her students to and can probably be found in everyone’s art journal who was lucky enough to have taken one of Christy’s classes. Here is Christy’s design. I hope you are able to find some time today to art journal or find a little you time! Have a wonderful Saturday everyone. In loving memory of Christy Riopel – we continue to raise money for the Christy Riopel…

For those of you new to our blog I would like to welcome you to our regular feature – #RememberingChristy. One and half years ago our dear friend and work colleague, Christy Riopel passed suddenly away. Christy was a huge part of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine for close to 8 years and will forever be apart of our creative souls. On saturdays we celebrate Christy by sharing a project or two that Christy created. Our creative jar filled with her designs is literally endless 🙂 This week we are looking back to the Summer 2015 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this issue Christy designed layouts for her regular Tool Junkie Article, featuring embellishments she created out of polymer clay. Here is one of the creations. Using Polymer Clay to Make Tile Embellishments 1. Brush the embossing folder with cornstarch to keep the clay from sticking. 2. Knead the polymer clay until…
