One of the things we loved the most about working with Christy Riopel was her ability to think outside the box. In her regular Tool Junkie column Christy would take supplies, create a project in the way the products were intended. Next,Β  she would create a few more projects showing you different ways that you may not have thought, to use your supplies. Very clever. Such was the case in our Fall 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this article Christy used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares as stamps – stamping with adhesives – who would have thought. Here is the spread as seen in the Fall 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine with the step by steps on how Christy designed her layout. Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares were definitely not intended for stamping – however Christy turned them into a super cool stamp…

The Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine featured one of my favourite Bible Art Journaling pages designed by Christy Riopel. The title of the art journal page wasΒ  “Be Strong and Courageous”. The page was filled with bright colours of ink and layers of stenciling and stickers. A beautiful art journal page that makes me smile each and every time I turn through the pages of our Summer 2016 issue. The Bible Art Journal Page SUPPLIES: Ranger clear gesso, gel medium, distress inks and distress crayons, Bo BunnyΒ  stickers, stencils and stamps. Basic Step By Steps Prep your page by using a brayer to apply a thin layer of clear gesso. This lets you see the words on the page, but stops any wet mediums you put on top from soaking through the page. Take a Ranger distress ink pad, and rub it directly onto the page. Don’t worry…

The fall 2014 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine featured one of my all time favourite articles written and designed by Christy Riopel. Back to school paper crafting projects was the theme of the article and in true Christy style she blew me away with a few of the projects that she created. Altered Globe One of my favourite projects in this article was this altered world globe. Check out all of the intricate details. Tiny squares of patterned paper were stuck together to form the different continents of the world. How super fun would this project look on your desk! Book Marks Remembering what page you are on in your school novel study has never been cuter!!! These fun paper clip book marks are so easy to make and will bring a smile to any student – even if their school assignment doesn’t (giggle giggle). Book Covers Altering the front…

Creating a stained glass effect using stamps, ink, dies and tissue paper is definitely one of my all time favourite techniques that Christy taught us through out the years. Christy Riopel taught this technique in one of her first shows that we filmed over at Shaw TV in Calgary. After the show I went home and created TONS of stained glass embellishments for my projects. The technique is so easy and fool proof. Here is the project that we featured on our Β web show. *Be sure to visit Creative Scrapbooker Magazine on YouTube for hundreds of how to videos. Do you have a bunch of intricate dies that you are afraid to use? This stained glass technique is PERFECT for any intricate die! All you need are some dies, some black cardstock, stamps, ink, Β tissue paper and the magic of a gel medium. Basic Instructions 1. Stamp randomly on some…

Christy Riopel instantly fell in love with Izinks from Clearsnap. I remember they day Clearsnap sent them to the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine team to play with – a few of us were like “What the heck do you do with these?” I for one am a die hard collector of all things scrapbooking pretty so I instantly knew where they were going to be displayed in my craft room but had no idea how to use them. Giggle Giggle. Not Christy. The first few projects she created with the Izinks were gorgeous, after that the projects were beyond beautiful. What are Izinks? First off, they are stored in the cutest little bottles! Izinks are acrylic based pigment ink. The ink is opaque and will not produce a patine effect. They are acid free and are mostly used for srapbooking and hobby crafts. Of course they come in a wide…

Christy Riopel designed the following layout featuring FabScraps for the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog approximately 4 years ago. The line of patterned paper and chipboard from FabScraps no longer exists however the beauty of the design is timeless. The Blog Post The copy for the blog post that Christy wrote was very short and to the point….exactly like Christy. There was nothing complicated about her teachings and her designs. Here is the post …. as written in her words…. “I wanted my layout to hint towards the military nature of the Museum so I cut pennant flags from FabScraps patterned paper and arranged them like a soldiers medals. I curled the paper with my fingers to add dimension to the page. I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D foam squares to attach the flags so they would stand up from the page.” Christy Riopel Giggle Giggle – like I said…

I LOVE this layout Christy Riopel designed for the Fall 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. That beautiful background was created with Ranger Dylusions spray ink and paper towels! HOW COOL! Frugal Scrapbooker In every issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine our Frugal Scrapbooker Connie Nichol shares tips and tricks for keepping your scrapbooking budget from exploding. (this can happen :)) Β In the Fall 2016 issue, Connie shared tips for using scrapbook supplies from your kitchen. Everything from saran wrap, to cheesecloth, to pop can tabs. LOVE IT! This layout was Christy’s contribution to Connie’s article. She used paper towel to create that fun textured background. The Products The base of Christy’s layout is Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock. This is heavy Β 130lb white smooth finish cardstock. It is meant to take a lot of scrapbooking LOVE – giggle giggle. Perfect for stamping, card making and mixed media! Ranger Dylusions ink spray…

Technique Tasters Web Show #96 – Distress Crayons Stencilling Technique Β – is probably one of my favourite videos we videoed with Christy Riopel. Ranger Distress Crayons had just entered the scrapbooking scene at the time and although I had purchased all that were available, I really had no idea how to use them. This short little video opened up a whole world of possibilities and in true Christy style – she made the technique look so very simple that even I can’t seem to screw it up! The Project The Supplies Ranger Distress Crayons. You can purchase these crayons individually or in sets of 6. Today there is a total of 10 sets of 6 colours. YUMMY! Art-C self adhesive stencils come in a large variety of sizes and shapes and sentiments. They are truly easy to use and THEY STICK! I love that – no worrying about your medium…

Today we are looking back to the Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine where Christy Riopel featured the brayer in her regular Tool Junkie column. Using the brayer as her base tool, Β she created three very different projects including this gorgeous, yet extremely simple layout of her daughter Brittany. Β Christy created the soft ombre effect you can see on the stamped image aswell as on the photo mat behind the gorgeous photo of Brittany using a brayer, Ranger distress inks and a custom blend distress ink pad. The Project The Supplies Stampin’ Up! cardstock and glossy cardstock, Ranger distress ink and custom blend distress ink pad, Impression Obsession stamp, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Sakura Pigma Micron pen. The Step By Steps – In Christy’s Words I used a blank Custom Blend Distress ink pad as my base. Choose three or so colours of Ranger Distress Ink re-inkers. It works…

Christy Riopel was problably most famous for her incredibly stunning art journals. Her ability to take a few white pieces of paper and turn them into a stunning work of art was truly a gift that amazed me. Journal Jump Offs A few years back Christy started a regular feature in Creative Scrapbooker Magazine called Journal Jump Off’s. In every other issue Christy taught an art journaling technique and then applied that technique to a scrapbook page or a card. Here is an example from the Spring 2016 issue of Creative ScrapbookerMagazine. In this issue Christy taught us the basic techniques for using stencils and Magenta Nuance powders while art journaling. The results are stunning. Christy always said her art journals were a place to play, to experiment with products and techniques and then apply what she discovered on your scrapbook layouts or cards. Even though Christy hated making cards…
