#RememberingChristy

Category

For those of you new to our blog I would like to welcome you to our weekly feature – #RememberingChristy. One and half years ago our dear friend and work colleague, Christy Riopel passed suddenly away. Christy was a huge part of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine for close to 8 years and will forever be apart of our creative souls. Each and every saturday we celebrate Christy by sharing a project or two that Christy created. Our creative jar filled with her designs is literally endless 🙂 This week we are looking back to the Fall 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this issue Christy put together an article featuring the VERY HOT – Chameleon Color Tone pens.  Here is a little peek at one project that we featured. Basic Coloring With Chameleon Pens 1. Using a black dye ink, stamp your image onto your cardstock. It must be a…

Looking back to the Winter 2015/16 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine – Christy Riopel had a ton of fun with her Plaid Mod Melts and glue gun! I love it when unconventional scrapbooking supplies find their way onto scrapbooking projects. On this layout Christy created that cute little red heart using her Plaid Mod melts, molds and heat gun. She also used these products to create that really cool white scribble, splatter in the background. SUPER DUPER LOVE IT!  The next time you are at the craft store and see all those coloured glue sticks for your heat gun – GRAB a few! Adding and creating embellishments with your hot glue is a wee bit addicting!  While Christy was working on her projects for her Winter 2015 Tool Junkie article – I was completely inspired AND was 100% guilty of going out and making a hot glue gun, molds and…

As I went through all the blog posts that Christy Riopel supplied Creative Scrapbooker Magazine over the years, I was once again AWE-STRUCK  by how incredibly talented Christy was. Often you can look at a layout or project and  say “That was created 10 or 15 years ago” based on the style or design of the layout. That just isn’t the case with Christy’s designs. They are timeless creations that look like they could have been created yesturday. Like this layout Christy created almost 10 years ago featuring chipboard gears from FabScraps. This week I am sharing with you the extact blog post Christy shared with us – TEN YEARS AGO! Amazing! Christy Riopel’s Blog Post Using Christmas Ornaments as Embellishments by Christy Riopel With all the stores stocking up Christmas ornaments I often keep my eye out for themed ornaments that are flat enough and super fun to use as…

The Winter 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine was filled with wintery, Christmasy ideas AND a fabulous tutorial on how to use Spectrum Noir Markers written by our beloved Christy Riopel. In this issue Christy walked you through a few basic techniques using Spectrum Noir markers and then demonstrated a real crazy technique using rubbing alcohol that I will share on another day! LOL! Sorry!!!!! Today I am sharing with you a layout Christy designed for the article demonstrating how to crete a Halo Effect with your Spectrum Noir markers or any alcohol based markers that you have on hand. Here is the stunning layout. Create a very subtle halo effect with your Spectrum Noir markers in a few very simple steps.  This very soft highlight really makes the photo on Christy’s layout pop from the page. Not to mention how incredibly stunning those poppies are! LOVE IT! Dust off…

Adding sewing products to your scrapbooking and paper crafting creations is definitely a trendy rage right now. It is so easy to add a button here or there, add machine stitching OR simply add a mess of sewing thread! Yes you read the correctly!  A mess of sewing thread adhered to your layout is the perfect amount of layered texture without adding any bulk. I first saw this technique way back in the Spring 2015 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, on one of Christy Riopel’s layouts, of course. She was cutting edge way back then. Love it! Spring 2015 Creative Scrapbooker Magazine In this issue, Christy wrote and designed, a feature article called “From My Grandmother’s Sewing Basket”. The article was all about pulling out your sewing baskets and using your supplies on your paper crafting projects.  The layouts in this feature are absolutely gorgeous and incorporate all things sewing…

Christmas Tags Instead of Christmas Cards Working within magazine timelines is kinda crazy. You could be sitting on the beach sun tanning while working on your Christmas assignments for the winter issue. LOL! Each and every summer at Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, we start to plan for and start creating the projects within the upcoming winter issue. I will send out the assignments when the weather is warm and hear back from each of our designers with questions and their suggestions. Christy Riopel ALWAYS ALWAYS came back with the same thing….. “I will make Christmas tags instead of Christmas cards!” – giggle, giggle. She just didn’t enjoy the creative process of putting together a card.  BUT tags – tags she loved! The Winter 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Check out these gorgeous Christmas tags Christy created for the Winter 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. Christy used Karen Foster Designs…

Ever wonder what the heck texture paste, gesso and all those other mediums are and what they are used for? Way back in the Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine we asked Christy Riopel to do a feature article called “Mad for Mediums” to answer these very questions. In this article, Christy played with and explained the various uses of the different kinds of gesso and texture paste. Her projects included techniques using a variety of different types of gesso with everyday scrapbooking supplies like  stencils, recycled magazines, distress spray, dies and so much more. She had so much that she wanted to share with everyone that we ended up dividing  the article into a TWO part series. Part one can be found in the Summer 2016 issue and Part two can be found in the Fall 2016 issue. Coloring Texture Paste One of my favourite techniques that Christy…

Sewing on your paper crafting projects, without a doubt, adds an instant homemade feel to just about anything. Over the years we have encouraged our readers in a number of different articles and features within Creative Scrapbooker Magazine to dust off their sewing machines and to not be afraid to add sewing to their next project. Fall 2012 Issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine In the Fall 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine our Frugal Scrapbooker – Connie Nichol – wrote an article entitled “Put a Hole In It”. This article touched not only on adding machine sewing to your scrapbook projects – but to not be afraid to add faux stitching or to simply add holes in a decorative way using a basic hole punch to create fun designs. Connie always finds a way to add embellishments to your projects for pennies!  She truly is our #1 Frugal Scrapbooker! Christy Riopel’s…

Looking back to the Fall 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine when Christy Riopel crafted up a “Crafty Halloween” feature just in time to inspire all those crafty halloween people out there.  This feature was full of interesting, easy to create and relatively inexpensive ideas to decorate your home for a party, for the big halloween day or to craft with kids at school or in play groups. Scary Apothecary  One of the things I loved the most about Christy’s article was this apothecary set up. Christy simply filled tiny glass bottles of  different shapes and sizes with things like rocks, grains, rice – whatever – she added some labels and BOOM – you got yourself a scary looking medicine cabnet! How fun!!!! Spellbook Add even MORE spookiness to your medicine cabnet by creating a SPELLBOOK! This is so Harry Potter. You will have a ton of fun adding  your…

In the Winter 2015/16  issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Christy Riopel celebrated our 10 year anniversary with her TOP TEN MUST HAVE TOOLS! Christy picked 10 tools that she felt she could simply NOT live without. The Punch Some of the tools in this article that she featured,  were  everyday basic punches. Punches come in all shapes and in all different sizes. There are so many different varieties on the market today allowing you to punch out shapes from monkeys to Christmas trees.  Christy was mostly drawn to basic shapes rather than punches with a more limiting shape. She always had a circle punch and a square punch on hand in her favourite sizes. For this layout Christy used a number of different sizes of circle punches from Stampin’ Up! It really is amazing all the different things you can do with a circle or squre punch.  One of…
