Today we welcome Darlene Madden, an amazingly talented mixed media artist who creates mosaic works of art. “We are mosaics–pieces of light, love, history, stars–glued together with magic and music and words.”  unknown I do not know if mosaic art found me, or I found mosaic art….regardless  while on this journey called Life, I found myself at an unexpected detour and change became my reality.  It was during this time that I attempted my first mosaic, and the parallels of putting the pieces of my life back together and mosaic art became apparent.  I make art to express, to relax, to play and to feed my soul. My work has a unique flavor due to my choice of materials and the fact that I invite viewers to touch the ever growing textures that I incorporate into each piece. Found objects are always finding a way into my pieces, whether it be a…

Today we are welcoming guest Shona Keehn to our blog, who is a talented member of the FabScraps Design Team! My name is Shona Keehn.  I have been on the FabScraps DT for the past 2 years, and I just adore their collections! I love that each collection has little extras that make completing your projects so easy. One of Fabscraps newest collections is called Industrial Chic, and today I have a layout to share that I have created using it. The papers are amazing. I have fussy cut some of the birds and flowers from the papers and tucked them in here and there. Look at all those gorgeous chipboard pieces….also part of the collection! It is an honour to be part of the FabScraps family, and I am thrilled that Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine asked me to share with you! Thank you, Shona, for sharing your inspirational project.  We…

Hello everyone – Desiree Saskiw here on the blog today! This was my first crack at a mixed media project! As I dug through my supplies looking for products to use I came across the Spellbinders shapeabilites “Sweet Treats” diecut template as well as the Heartfelt Creations “Sun Kissed Fleur” custom design template. I then grabbed the matching Heartfelt Creations “Sun Kissed Collection” paper pack and set to work! I was very pleased with the flowers that I got from the die cut template and how they added great dimension to my piece. I also loved the Spellbinders lemonade cup, which gives subtle tribute to my friends innate ability to turn “lemons in to lemonade!” My friend in the photograph is soon turning 40 so I figured that instead of giving her a bunch of flowers that will wither and die, why not create a scrapbooked, lasting bouquet! Thanks for looking…

Hello everyone – Christy Riopel here! I love Core’dinations ColorCore pre-embossed cardstock. It makes a great base for a mixed media technique page. I started by dry brushing gesso over the entire surface of the teal paper. Don’t add water as that may lessen the embossing a bit. I then added Clearsnap ColorBox dye ink to the raised surfaces by directly rubbing the ink pad on them. I love the how antique the finished look is. I used Core’dinations ColorCore die cuts on the page as some of the many layers I have under my photo. Supply list: Core’dinations ColorCore paper and die cuts, May Arts Ribbon, paper doily, gesso, Clearsnap ColorBox dye ink, Marvy pen, Beacon Adhesive, Photo by Allison Orthner. Have a wonderful Monday everyone! To see more of Christy’s work – visit her blog – Creating a Life I Love to Share

When you step inside the Spellbinders™ booth at CHA, it’s as if you’ve travelled back in time into a glamorous, Victorian mansion….filled with lace and jewelled treasures. These displays were showcases for Spellbinders “A Gilded Life Studio” , a mixed media product line for jewellery making, home decor, embellishments, paper crafts and so forth.     A vintage dress form made from dress patterns! Fabulous! Spellbinders also introduced a new collection of Shapeabilities™ dies that are trendy and smaller in size, called “In’Spire”…..the anchor, birds on wire, feathers, typewriter etc. The other new Shapeabilities collection is called “Create-A-Flower”, die sets of petals and flower pieces that you build to create beautiful realistic 3D flowers, which I didn’t photograph, but you’ll see on the Spellbinders website and blog in the upcoming weeks. One of the most exciting products newly released by Spellbinders is their new “Tool n’ One”, a portable tool that…
