Hello Canadian Scrapbookers! I have been intrigued and inspired by art journals lately. Although I am a true novice at this craft, I have been dabbling a tiny bit and learning a few techniques and about some of the main mediums. I am a dive in and give it a try kind of girl, so don’t look to me for authority on β€˜how to’ and β€˜you should’. If you do, you will be disappointed. BUT, if you are looking for someone to give you permission to try it out, explore and see what can happen, then I am your support team. Here are the steps to my first creation, where I figured if playing on paper and tucking it away in a book was good, then how awesome would it be to create something for the wall. Go ahead, and give it a try! What is the worst that can…

One of the best parts of going to a crop is getting to play with our friends’ supplies. Last March, on the first night of our weekend crop at Pigeon Lake, I spied this row ofΒ  Aladine Izinks Pigment Ink distributed by Clearsnap. That night I dreamed aboutΒ ClearnspΒ Izinks all night. I literally dreamed about them. Dripping them actually! I was so excited to get my hands on the Izink pigment inks that I woke up before everyone else. I used Canadian Scrapbooker Super StockΒ (CSS) as my base, and as I wasn’t sure how the Izink would drip I used gesso on my second page. The first page was naked. Newport Beach layout: Izink on Naked CSS I’m not really sure what verb best describes the action required to place Izink on your page. It’s not really a drop. It’s a mashup of a plop and a dab… it’s…

Hoping for spring! Materials: Magenta Stamps and cork sticker, Liquitex Gel Medium, book paper, Clearsnap inks, Canuck Crafts Spectrum Noir coloured pencils, Charcoal pencil IΒ did this little art journal page to give myself a little bit of spring. I don’t think I am the only person who is ready for birds singing and sun shining! I started by using matt gel medium to attach these images over my background. I really like colouring over the gel medium with these Spectrum Noir pencils. They are so smooth and silky and blend beautifully. Happy Spring! A huge hello to everyone out there in the paper crafting world! I was absolutely delighted to be invited as a guest blogger, featuring Magenta Style products. A little about me: I live in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, a mom of 20 yr old twins (girl & boy), married for nearly 23 years, a Registered Nurse going on 29 years and yes, I am addicted to anything and everything in the paper crafting world! I’ve been crafty throughout my entire life in one way or another but was not introduced to scrapbooking until 2006. It took one home party to get me craving for more. Scrapbooking turned into card making which turned into mix media, home dΓ©cor, etc, etc. I am not a routine person, and I tend to get bored easily so paper crafting for me is the PERFECT right brain activity. The moment I find myself β€œbored” I switch…

It’s always exciting to see the Clearsnap booth at the Craft & Hobby show to find out about new ink colours being released and other new products. There are 6 new Ann Butler Colorbox Crafter’s Ink Pads…Blueberry, Deep Woods, Canyon, Ocean Breeze, Evergreen andΒ Desert Sand I know that Cathie Allan will be very interested in the two new pigment ink Petal Points:Β Β Serenity is a gorgeous mix of greens, teals and purples.Β  Doodlebug hasΒ a bright, fun palette, true to theirΒ paper collections. There are 6Β new Spritzers (Pumpkin Pie, Lemon Drop, Frosted Plum, Mermaid, Grasshopper, Putty) Β and 4 new Colorbox Archival Dye Ink pads… Lilac, Mist, Toasted Apricot and Saddle. Eileen Hull’s Colorbox Blends have added 6 more new colours too:Β  Stop, Wildberry, Uniform, Beach, Frog, and Golden. Clearsnap continues to carry Aladine’s fantastic Izinks, adding 3 new colours:Β  Rose, Gentian and Lotus There are so many different applications for Izinks….lots of fun…

Welcome to the Bo Bunny booth, one of our favourite stops at the Craft & Hobby Tradeshow! BoBunny was showing off theirΒ 5 new fantastic paper collections. First up… Safari! Perfect for your Zoo, Animal and Wild themed layouts. We all went “Ooooooo” over the feminine and romantic “Garden Journal” with its soft pastel colours. Another pretty set of papers is the Sweet Life collection, with some butterfly patterns that will make you think that Spring is on the way. For a fresh, fun and funky look, you will love the #ForeverYoung collection with its bright, happy colour palette. BoBunny has produced lots of variety with its releases, and its Heritage collection is reminiscent of geneaology and family trees, with lovely dark rich jewel tones and a vintage style. And now for something completely different….it’s Carnival! Bring on the popcorn, candy and elephant rides! Lots of wonderful projects designed with these…

Hi everyone! Karen Ellis here. If you know me, or my articles in the magazine, you’ll know that I love my Gelli Plate. I love creating one of a kind papers for my cards, collages and projects. It’s an incredible amount of fun to make your own designs and I love discovering new ways to make marks and uniquely designed prints. Recently I spent the weekend in the studio channeling my inner kindergarten student… creating texture tools out of some items I had laying around the shop.Β  Here are some examples of what I created and samples of the prints they made. 1. Buttons – glue buttons to some foam and stamp away!! 2. Elastic Bands (and a little Saran Wrap) – Wrap the elastics around a play rolling pin (I got mine at the dollar store). Tear off a bit of Saran Wrap and wrap that around the…

Today we welcome Darlene Madden, an amazingly talented mixed media artist who creates mosaic works of art. β€œWe are mosaics–pieces of light, love, history, stars–glued together with magic and music and words.”  unknown I do not know if mosaic art found me, or I found mosaic art….regardlessΒ  while on this journey called Life, I found myself at an unexpected detour and change became my reality.Β  It was during this time that I attempted my first mosaic, and the parallels of putting the pieces of my life back together and mosaic art became apparent.Β  I make art to express, to relax, to play and to feed my soul. My work has a unique flavor due to my choice of materials and the fact that I invite viewers to touch the ever growing textures that I incorporate into each piece. Found objects are always finding a way into my pieces, whether it be a…

Today we are welcoming guest Shona Keehn to our blog, who is a talented member of the FabScraps Design Team! My name is Shona Keehn. Β I have been on the FabScraps DT for the past 2 years, and I just adore their collections! I love that each collection has little extras that make completing your projects so easy. One of Fabscraps newest collections is called Industrial Chic, and today I have a layout to share that I have created using it. The papers are amazing. I have fussy cut some of the birds and flowers from the papers and tucked them in here and there. Look at all those gorgeous chipboard pieces….also part of the collection! It is an honour to be part of the FabScraps family, and I am thrilled that Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine asked me to share with you! Thank you, Shona, for sharing your inspirational project. Β We…

Hello everyone – Desiree Saskiw here on the blog today! This was my first crack at a mixed media project! As I dug through my supplies looking for products to use I came across the Spellbinders shapeabilites “Sweet Treats” diecut template as well as the Heartfelt Creations “Sun Kissed Fleur” custom design template. I then grabbed the matching Heartfelt Creations “Sun Kissed Collection” paper pack and set to work! I was very pleased with the flowers that I got from the die cut template and how they added great dimension to my piece. I also lovedΒ theΒ Spellbinders lemonade cup, which givesΒ subtle tribute to my friends innate ability to turn “lemons in to lemonade!” My friend in the photograph is soon turning 40 so I figured that instead of giving her a bunch of flowers that will wither and die, why not create a scrapbooked, lasting bouquet! Thanks for looking…
