Hey Crafters, Nicole Wright here and I’m back to share my love for industrial crafting. With the new Sizzix Gears available I decided to haul out my Sizzix Gadget Gears die (I believe the first Sizzix die I ever bought) and have a little fun experimenting with my embossing powders and distress crayons.
I cut a set of Gadget Gears with Sizzix Little Sizzles White Mat Board. I heat embossed a coat of Emerald Creek Craft Supplies Era Hammered Metal Embossing Powder. This thick powder leaves open spots to add color. I wanted to see if the distress crayons would work to create a weathered patina on the gears.
On the set of gears I used Ranger distress crayons vintage photo, mermaid lagoon, peacock feathers and peeled paint. The distress crayons fill in the areas the thick embossing powders don’t. Once the colors are filled in I used a baby wipe to remove the crayons from the embossing powder. Next coat Ranger Media White Gesso onto the Sizzix Tag and Bookplate tag.
By adding the Ranger Media White Gesso to the surface this creates a smooth surface to create a dynamic background. Now the background has color I can use the Gears Stencil to create a layer. Grab a wipe, place the stencil where you want it and wipe. A great way to create a layer.
Time to layer even more with Ranger Distress Clear Rock Candy Crackle Paint and create almost a washed background.
While the crackle dries it’s a good time to add color to the ribbon with Ranger distress crayon. Grab out the embellishments!
I wanted to add more metallic elements so the Sizzix Gadget Gears pop! I coated the Framed Alphaparts with Emerald Creek Craft Supplies Burnt Copper Leaves and Hammered Metal. Be careful when heating, they will (and did) melt and curl.
This cluster of gears looks great. I cannot wait to add more g ear dies to my collection.
The thick hammered metal embossing powder leaves these gaps allowing the distress crayon to fill it in. It looks pitted as if they have been found in the ocean.
I accessorized thes Gadget Gears with not only the powders but some hardware. I colored the token with distress crayonb twisted citron to pull in the colors of the gears.
The crackled background brings more layers and texture to the tag. This layer ties in with the Gadget Gear cluster creating an industrialized tag.
How will you create with your dies? There are so many ways to create a fun project. Thanks for stopping by and keep creating.

WOW Nicole, This project is awesome!I love the tips with the crayons and that background is fantastic. Thank you CSM & Nicole for a spotlighting me with Sizzix and Ranger. 2 Amazing Industry manufacturers. What an honour.
Love seeing how you used the crayons! I always learn something new from you!
I loved making tags so much that I started making mini albums full of tags. I would like to see collectors ideas for saving them. I often wondeed what happened to all the tags I gifted…
