Hello, Connie Nichol here with two projects featuring the Sea Breeze collection from Heartfelt Creations.ย Can’t you smell the salt air right now?ย I had a lot of fun creating projects with this collection.ย ย It is perfect for scrapbooking maritime-themed photographs or creating beautiful sea themed cards. Here’s the Sea Breeze paper collection – beautiful colours and graphics and there are several matching stamp and die sets that will complement the paper beautifully. An important part of my projects is scrap cardboard that I covered with white gesso.ย It reminded me of the texture of the building next to the Cape Forchu lighthouse.ย Just save a piece of cardboard from your recycling bin (this one has particularly fine corrugations) and cover with a coat of white gesso or acrylic paint.ย Let dry and use as the base of your card or layout. I built the card using the Heartfelt Creations…
Ever wonder what the heck texture paste, gesso and all those other mediums are and what they are used for? Way back in the Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine we asked Christy Riopel to do a feature article called “Mad for Mediums” to answer these very questions. In this article, Christy played with and explained the various uses of the different kinds of gesso and texture paste. Her projects included techniques using a variety of different types of gesso with everyday scrapbooking supplies likeย stencils, recycled magazines, distress spray, dies and so much more. She had so much that she wanted to share with everyone that we ended up dividingย the article into a TWO part series. Part one can be found in the Summer 2016 issue and Part two can be found in the Fall 2016 issue. Coloring Texture Paste One of my favourite techniques that Christy…
Hello, Nicole here and I am so excited to share my new journal pages using Stabilo.ย I was sent a set of ย Woody 3 in 1 pencils to create with.ย These are new to me so I was very curious how they would handle my love of watercoloring.ย They far surpassed my expectations!ย They are smooth to put on these old pages, creamy enough to blend and donโt washout when watercoloring.ย Check out my quick and easy tutorial for stamping and watercoloring with Stabilo Woody 3 in 1 pencils.I prepared my old book pages with Rangerโs Clear Gesso.ย Once dry I stamped the Garden Flower stamps randomly then started adding colour with the Stabilo Woody pencils.ย You can easily move the colour around by smearing with your fingers. This is my first time so I wanted to try the pencils in different ways.ย I tried blending and they blend beautifully.ย Watercoloring…
Hi, Connie Nichol here today with a layout featuring some bright sunny colours and a couple of easy techniques featuring reinkers, gesso and cling wrap. Supplies Used: ย CTMH stamps, ink, reinkers, heart dies, cardstock and patterned paper, Ranger Industries gesso, stencil and glossy paper. I started by tinting some white gesso from Ranger with a few drops of Lemon reinker from Close to My Heart and smooshing it through a Dina Wakley large block stencil onto a piece of cardstock. ย I just wanted to take the edge off of the white, but if you wanted a more intense colour, just add more reinker to customize the gesso colour to whatever you want. ย While that was drying, I made some marbleized looking paper by spraying some ink onto a piece of crumpled cling wrap and pressing onto a piece of glossy paper. ย I let that dry too, then cut out…
Hey Crafters, Nicoleย Wright here and Iโm back to share my love for industrial crafting.ย With the new Sizzix ย Gears available I decided to haul out my Sizzixย Gadget Gears die (I believe the first Sizzix die I ever bought) and have a little fun experimenting with my embossing powders and distress crayons. I cut a set of Gadget Gears with Sizzix Little Sizzles White Mat Board.ย I heat embossed a coat of Emerald Creek Craft Suppliesย Era Hammered Metal Embossing Powder.ย This thick powder leaves open spots to add color.ย I wanted to see if the distress crayons would work to create a weathered patina on the gears. On the set of gears I used Ranger distress crayons vintage photo, mermaid lagoon, peacock feathers and peeled paint.ย The distress crayons fill in the areas the thick embossing powders donโt.ย Once the colors are filled in I used a baby wipe to remove…

Hello everyone! Jayme Loge here today! For my day job, I work in a school as an education assistant. In previous years, my assignment has been to provide literacy support to several classes. This meant working with several teachers and a rotating group of kids. Due to student needs, my assignment this past year has been in one classroom. It was a wonderful experience to work closely with one teacher and student group. I decided to get the kids together to work on a special end of the year gift for the teacher. They ended up creating this wonderful canvas! Supplies Used: Canvas- Michaels 16×20 Stencils- Donna Downey (Keyhole Splatter, Bubbles, Halftone Dots); Tim Holtz (Speckles, Lace) Paint- Ranger Dylusions Stamps- Frogโs Whiskers Ink Ink- Clearsnap We worked for weeks in a secret location, kids giving up their recess time in turn so everyone got a chance to contribute. The…
Pinwheel Photo mats ย ย Materials: Magenta Paper, Stencils, and Stamps, Liquitex Gesso and Texture Medium, Beacon Adhesives 3in1, Oil Pastels, Ranger Gel Pen, Clearsnap ink Who says photo mats have to be square or flat? We have seen pinwheels used in scrapbooking for years. They are an inexpensive and fun way to embellish any page, but I thought it might be fun to use them as photo mats under this group of fun shots of my daughter being silly. ย To soften the edges of them I brushed them with a little gesso. ย To add more texture to this page I scraped a texture paste through a Magenta stencil and let it dry. I also punched circles out of the same paper as the pinwheels and brushed them with gesso. Instead of traditional journaling I let this fabulous Magenta stamp do all the talking for me. ย This Magenta…
Hello Canadian Scrapbookers! I have been intrigued and inspired by art journals lately. Although I am a true novice at this craft, I have been dabbling a tiny bit and learning a few techniques and about some of the main mediums. I am a dive in and give it a try kind of girl, so donโt look to me for authority on โhow toโ and โyou shouldโ. If you do, you will be disappointed. BUT, if you are looking for someone to give you permission to try it out, explore and see what can happen, then I am your support team. Here are the steps to my first creation, where I figured if playing on paper and tucking it away in a book was good, then how awesome would it be to create something for the wall. Go ahead, and give it a try! What is the worst that can…
Learn some basic techniques when using Gesso as I have done here on this cute little card that was totally inspired by the very talented Christy Riopel! Thanks Christy! The base of this cardย was created using thisย YUMMY paper stack from DCWV. I love paper stacks – they are so packed full of gorgeous patterend paper and make mixing and matching a BREEZE! I also used Clearsnap Smooch ink to fussy colour in the details of this peacock or fancy chicken stamp from Magenta. What did we do before Smooch ink? Watch me create this card from start to finish – CLICK HERE! Enjoy PS – plesae ignore that one strand of blonde hair on my head that looks like it belongs on someone else’s head!!! LOLOL!!!! It makes its appearance around the middle of the show!!!!
