Hello December. The holiday season seems to be extra special and extra hard all at the same time this year. For me, I am trying my very best to zone into the holiday spirit, counting all my blessings on the way. I am also trying to connect in a more intentional manner. As such, my Christmas card list has grown. Creating Christmas cards brings me joy so bring it on! “Wherever we wander, wherever we roam, at Christmas time our hearts come home.” I found this sentiment from a retired Stampin’ Up! stamp set called “Hearts Come Home” a couple of weeks ago when I was searching for something else. It seemed like a perfect sentiment this year and as such, I plan to use it in many of my cards this year. I really enjoyed the creative process of creating this card. It features the Snow Globe Scenes Die…

It’s happening. We are less than 8 weeks away. Never before have I been as excited for Christmas as I am this year. My family is supposed to be in Florida but of course, that’s not happening. We are hunkering down in Newfoundland to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. We are so lucky to have most of our family nearby and it breaks my heart to think about others that may not be with their family this year. With Halloween behind me, I am going full tilt into the holiday spirit including making Christmas cards! Stampin’ Up! released the Merry Moose bundle in the holiday catalogue last year. Since those majestic animals can be found in abundance in Newfoundland, they have a soft spot in my heart. With a short hiatus, he’s back in stock and I was ready to see if I could bring him back to…

The kids are back to school and Mama (that’s me!) has been making getting into the craft room a priority. I’ve been slowly opening all my new stamp sets and products. Sometimes I just get organized or clean up and other times I get messy. Today I got messy with the brand new Blossoms in Bloom Bundle from the Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. I purchased this bundle because I really felt that it could make beautiful cards fast. I wasn’t wrong. I began this project like many others as I die cut several pieces at once. It didn’t take long for me to notice that the die shape of the blossom outline was gorgeous on almost any background. It’s the star of the show for both my cards! I used the purple posy ink on whisper white cardstock similar to how the products were intended to be paired together. I…

Well, what a weird summer it has been. While most weddings this year have been rescheduled or postponed around the world, here in Newfoundland there are some scattered lovebirds tying the knot. It’s so nice to try to get back to some normalcy. I think we can all agree, it’s great for the soul to have a reason to celebrate. Throughout the past few months, I’ve been stamping images and watercolouring while watching TV with my husband. The Bloom and Grow Polymer Stamp by Stampin’ Up! is one of my favourites. I absolutely love the font pairings on this stamp set! This card begins with a sponged blue background. I like having a blue background on most of my cards to help anchor any images.  I use a simple technique of sponging onto a white card base with the retired Stampin’ Up! Tempting Turquoise ink. Since I do this so…

Wow, I can’t believe that August is upon us. 2020 has certainly been a wild ride especially in our household with a new baby. Claire is now six months old and we are resuming some of our pre-COVID activities. I’ve also started getting into a better habit of making time for me in the craft room. When the Stampin’ Up! 2020-2021 new annual catalogue was released in June, I ordered some new 12×12 Rainbow Glimmer Paper. I mean… I am obsessed. But it’s the type of product that I would tend to “hoard”. Almost like it was too precious to cut up! Not today. Well okay. Just the one sheet. But I did it. I cut it up! I knew that this paper was going to be the star of the show but to help bring it to life I paired it with an image from the Zany Zebras stamp…

Hey everyone! Cathy Caines here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog! I had so much fun putting this project together for you this month. I was completely inspired by the new Stampin’ Up! Game On stamp set. My family are ‘gamers’ so I knew that this stamp set was going to be a huge hit in my world. While none of us play chest anymore, I couldn’t help but create with the chest pieces first. It was very evident to me that the background of this card should resemble a game board. The Stampin’ Up! Stitched Shapes framelits has a one-inch square that brings this idea to life. We do play Yahtzee and Monopoly, and well, many games with dice. It could work for any age group. I often struggle with using black in my cards are a dominant colour but the Bricks and Mortar 3D embossing folder made…

It’s finally here! It’s the sun! Yes! But also, Stampin’ Up! has released their new annual catalogue. This means that you will get to be inspired by new products and projects. To view and download a digital copy of the catalogue CLICK HERE! I am here to show you one of my favourite paper lines from the new catalogue called In Good Taste. This 24-page paper pack is filled with 12×12 patterns and prints that will co-ordinate with all your projects. Check it out! To create this scrapbook page, I began by flipping through the patterned paper pages. This time I looked for a couple contrasting patterns that complimented each other. Once I selected my two I decided to use the darker page as the background. I am a simple scrapbooker. I absolutely love repeating shapes and clean lines. Because I scrapbook in 8.5×11”, I cut the gray page at…

As we move closer to Mother’s Day and longer into this pandemic, I am starting to miss the physical connections I have with other humans. Mother’s Day will especially be hard as I traditionally celebrate so many beautiful women in my life in person. What I wouldn’t do right now for some hugs with my own mother, my ‘person’. For now, I will be building that love bigger and bigger until we embrace it again. “If flowers were hugs, I’d send you thousand.” Those words from the Abstract Impressions stamp set by Stampin’ Up! spoke to me. They seemed to be exactly what I wanted to say. And not just to my mother but to so many of my family and friends. Typically, I am not a big hugger but after this pandemic, you can be certain that I’ll turn into a regular “hug-o-monster”. Look out world because I’ll be…

I just don’t even know what to say. The world took a one-eighty and I am okay one day and not okay the next. Mental wellness is high on the priority list. For me, that means using scrapbooking as a tool to stay positive. Using words to keep some control in a society where I have no control. When I create, I can find happiness. And right now, it’s more important than ever. Today I am sharing the words and the page that I documented to help me move through my feelings. “We made it to April. We are more than two weeks in. It still feels unbelievable. It still feels scary. But we keep trying to focus on the good. There’s so much good. And the sun will come out again.       My anxieties and worries are slowly reducing every day. There are still financial worries but largely…

It’s been 5 weeks since the birth of my third child, Claire. It’s about this stage when you are craving some of your old routines. For me, that’s crafting. It can be incredibly hard to find that inspiration and get back into your creative self especially with limited time. It’s always nice to be pushed by challenges or to be inspired by someone else’s work. Keeping it simple has always been a great way for me to get my juices flowing. For this month’s project, I have used the By the Dock Bundle by Stampin’ Up!. You can find this bundle in their Occasions Catalogue. Living on the East Coast of Canada means that I am always pulled towards anything nautical so this stamp set and coordinating framelits are a must-have item. The first step I did was to water colour several images from this stamp set. This time I…
