It’s a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? I’m still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that it’s about ‘playing’ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense.  Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. That’s where having a sketch as a launching point helps. I loosely used this months sketch to contain my techniques and create movement down the middle. I really liked how it turned out…

Once upon a time there was a beautiful stamp that cried out to be used on a project or “6” J.  This “beautiful stamp” came from Impression Obsession and was one of their new releases at “CREATIVATION” which was held in Phoenix in January. This stamp, part of a “geranium series” from Impression Obsession decided to go home with Cathie and she set to work creating “something”. Not really knowing what the project would become, Cathie set about simply altering a piece of Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock with her new, stamp and the Poinsettia pigment petal point from Clearsnap. Even though the name of this particular stamp pad “screamed Christmas”, Cathie looked past it and simply saw it also was a great combination of colors for a geranium image. She partnered her stamp with her “Cathie Allan Position-it2”, which is 3 tools in one. This tool can be used with…

IO has a huge selection of stamps and dies with designs from a variety of artists.  I love that there are so many different art styles.  There’s lost of funny stamps and quotes. The art of Lindsay Ostrom is so pretty!  Here’s just a few new stamps designed by her. There’s also new stamps designed by Seth Apter.  Very grungy and fun. Cathie Allan here. I just wanted to share a little of my “Christmas Stair Art” with you. I have been creating “Stair Art” with my rubber stamps for many years. I started creating these on 6X6 blocks of wood.  I would use my stamps and acrylic paint to create them and I place them in the corners of my stairs. These have always made me smile. Last year I started creating them with Superstock, which I fortify and now they are “so much faster” to create. No prepping of the wood. No waiting for sealer to dry and they look AWESOME. I am sharing a couple of the “older, on the wooden block” ones that I made in previous years (if you look real close you can see that these were done in 1997)and the one that I created this year.  This year’s is all done with Impression Obsession Stamps,…

“Faux Watercolor Stamping Bliss” ideas for Christmas. Hello everyone – Cathie Allan here! One of my classes this year is a wonderful, flexible class called “Faux Watercolor Stamping Bliss”.  To achieve the watercolor look for this project we did not even use water.  The result was a page and a tag/card that did not warp or heave and we did not have to use a bucket of mediums to create it.  I love using my mediums in unique ways, allowing them to multitask for me and mimic other products. The projects that we complete in the class looked like this …. A wonderful masculine page and great “guy” card. Well for this blog post I took those same techniques, changed the colors, changed the stamps and stencils, changed the cut of my Super Stock and came up with some very “timely” Christmas ideas.  So for those of you who took…

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a fall layout featuring some gorgeous Momenta textured cardstock that has a dreamy water colour look. The cardstock comes in an 8×8 paper pad with three sheets of each design.  The colours will go with almost everything. I put two of the 8×8 cardstock sheets in opposite corners on a sheet of 12×12 cardstock and then filled in the corners with some shimmery Art-C paint and a self adhesive stencil.  Because hey, who doesn’t like to play with shimmery paint?  This stuff is gorgeous.  And the colour stops my heart. I filled in what was left of the gap between the stenciled paint and the cardstock with a piece of May Arts gingham ribbon, and then mounted my photograph.  (P.S. By the way, especially for Canadians, I had this 8×8 photo enlargement printed at www.blacks.ca for 99 cents on a sale last month.  I am super…

Hello! Kim here with a cute, quick all-occasion card. I like making all-occasion cards because it’s simple to pull out and use for whatever event requires a card. I can always stamp a sentiment on the inside at a later date, as needed. For this card I used one stamp! This adorable flower cluster from Impression Obsession. I love it! I also used Susan Weckesser “color POP mini” inks from Clearsnap. One stamp, three inks! The base of my card is done by stamping a diagonal floral line. I stamped the ink off twice before using the third impression. This gave me a very nice gray, recessed background. On a scrap piece of CSM Super Stock I stamped three images in black ink. I pressed my coloured ink pads down on a non-stick surface and used the ink plus water brush to colour the images. I “fussy cut” my flowers and…
