#RememberingChristy – Ombre Effect

Today we are looking back to the Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine where Christy Riopel featured the brayer in her regular Tool Junkie column. Using the brayer as her base tool, she created three very different projects including this gorgeous, yet extremely simple layout of her daughter Brittany. Christy created the soft ombre effect you can see on the stamped image aswell as on the photo mat behind the gorgeous photo of Brittany using a brayer, Ranger distress inks and a custom blend distress ink pad. The Project The Supplies Stampin’ Up! cardstock and glossy cardstock, Ranger distress ink and custom blend distress ink pad, Impression Obsession stamp, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Sakura Pigma Micron pen. HELLO SUMMER! Hey everyone, – Cathie Allan here – thought I would share with you a totally fun and easy card that you can create in the wee hours of the morning. Why? … in the “wee hours of the morning?” ….. well, because, it is May 23rd and it is behaving like summer outside so we NEED to spend “some” of our “crafting time” in our gardens and on our deck. I used totally “doable” stamping techniques to create a fun, shape card that “wanted to be a slider card”. The background was simply stamped using a wonderful solid, daisy stamp from Impression Obsession and two fabulous pigment colors from Clearsnap. Since it was pigment ink, I was able to stamp the darker, Antique Pewter images first and then stamp the lighter, Buttercup images on top of the dark color. Pigment ink allows me to do this and I…

April Sketchy Challenge Blog Post 3-in-1 challenge. Happy April everyone! Kerry Engel here. I thought this month we could talk about design principles. I’ve always been a disciple of the CRAP Method of designing: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity. These are the four principles that dictate pretty much everything I create. Here’s how I’ve used these principles in the April sketch: Contrast is created through the placement of the photo strip on the left and the white space on the right. Repetition is expressed through the repeating of the circle motif and the rectangular shapes in the photos and journaling blocks. Alignment is achieved by keeping all the spaces between the elements a similar distance apart. Proximity is attained by keeping “like” elements close and tight. The journaling is kept together (in one area) and isn’t spread all over and the photos are kept collected in one area too. This…

Tuesday with the Team – The Cathie Allan Position-it 2!

YES …. my Cathie Allan Position-it has had an upgrade. I have loved my Position-it for many years. Loved that it was two tools in one. It was a tool that worked as a positioner, allowing you to place images “exactly” where you wanted them on your project AND allowed you to stamp an image, over and over and over again in exactly the same place thus opening up endless possibilities with my favourite art tools, my rubber stamps. Loved that it works on ALL sizes of paper. Loved that it worked with wood mounted rubber stamps, cling rubber stamps AND clear rubber stamps. Sounds amazing right … YES it was and YES …. it still IS but now …. it allows me to do even more. In essence … it simply makes stamping easier and even more “funner” (yes, I know that is not a word (yet) I like…

It’s a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? I’m still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that it’s about ‘playing’ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense. Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. That’s where having a sketch as a launching point helps. A Happy Valentines Day Stamp Story – by Cathie Allan

Once upon a time there was a beautiful stamp that cried out to be used on a project or “6” J. This “beautiful stamp” came from Impression Obsession and was one of their new releases at “CREATIVATION” which was held in Phoenix in January. This stamp, part of a “geranium series” from Impression Obsession decided to go home with Cathie and she set to work creating “something”. Not really knowing what the project would become, Cathie set about simply altering a piece of Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock with her new, stamp and the Poinsettia pigment petal point from Clearsnap. Even though the name of this particular stamp pad “screamed Christmas”, Cathie looked past it and simply saw it also was a great combination of colors for a geranium image. Walking into the Impression Obsession booth at the Creativation Show is always such a treat. There are so many beautiful new stamps and dies, and a huge variety of cards and other projects showcasing these. Loads of colour and inspiration! Here is the lovely Mitra Friant, owner of Impression Obsession in the booth. The pic below shows just a smidgen of the amazing art that is on display showcasing the new products. Christmas Stair Art with Cathie Allan

Cathie Allan here. I just wanted to share a little of my “Christmas Stair Art” with you. I have been creating “Stair Art” with my rubber stamps for many years. I started creating these on 6X6 blocks of wood. I would use my stamps and acrylic paint to create them and I place them in the corners of my stairs. These have always made me smile. Last year I started creating them with Superstock, which I fortify and now they are “so much faster” to create. No prepping of the wood. No waiting for sealer to dry and they look AWESOME. I am sharing a couple of the “older, on the wooden block” ones that I made in previous years (if you look real close you can see that these were done in 1997)and the one that I created this year.
