I’m getting all caught up with my Sketchy Challenges…it feels good! I love working with sketches, it takes the toughest part of scrapbooking out of the picture-the design! Once that part is dealt with the creative juices can flow. Here is our September Sketch, designed by Kelly Klapstein, that was the starting point for my page. For this layout I wanted to play with my newly purchased Nuance Pigment Powders from Magenta. It was the first time I played with them after hearing about them through Christy Riopel at our Edmonton carnival. They are FUN to say the least and I look forward to using them more and learning other applications with them. I masked off three boxes and used the Nuance powders to colour them…I really should have used a small amount of Gesso on my cardstock, but I forgot…it’s a learning process! Had I used the Gesso my…
Kim Gowdy here on the blog today, happily sharing my layout inspired by the August Sketchy Challenge. I have been struggling to find time in my craft room these past months…but stay focused to get ALL the sketches completed! The August sketch designed by Kelly Klapstein was very graphic. I swayed from that aspect of the design but otherwise kept pretty true to it. My layout is pretty simple using papers, stickers and ephemera from Fancy Pant’s “ME-OLOGY” collection. The paw print, cut behind the pictures, was done on my Cricut Explore using Close To My Heart’s Artistry cartridge. I also used Scrapbook Adhesive by 3L and the little wood veneer dogs were from Studio Calico. By the way; the topic of my layout…TRUE STORY! Go forth and scrapbookΒ withΒ our sketches. They are always available in our Sketchy Gallery. On time or late…we LOVE to see what you share.
Hi Everyone!Β It’s Kelly Klapstein here today to share my layout based on the September Sketchy Challenge. Here is my sketch: I used the gorgeous Kaisercraft collection “Botanica.” Actually, these products were in my September kit from ScrapShotz. With this Kaisercraft stamp set and Β “Avocado” ink, I added a subtle pattern of leaves to the solid green paper layers. When you stamp several times or ‘values’ without reloading with ink, you can create your own patterned paper (learned from the great ink queen herself, Cathie Allan!) The leaves are cut with my Brother ScanNCut machine After cutting them from mixed media paper, I watercoloured them with my Tombow Dual Brush Pens. I also used my Tombow pens for hand letteringΒ my title “Hello.” Here is a video on my YouTube channel that shows how I created the watercolour leaves. https://youtu.be/Yhj_8jnlzHM I would love to see what you create with my…
Summers in Canada are short! As such, we Canadians pack as much as we can into two or three months, making them very busy! That explains why I am sharing my July sketch in August! Enough said! July’s sketch was a simple grid, easy to work with. There really is so much you can do with this type of sketch, it’s a jumping board to creative fun! I chose to offset my grid and use three pictures! I was pleased with the end results. My four-legged BellaΒ is often a willing subject for scrapbook pages, not so much for laying on the ground while camping! This layout came easily together using the Simple Stories – Life Documented collection And I stuck everything down using Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L This sketch designed by Sue Sykes, was her last for us in the Sketchy Challenges. She has provided us with…
Another month, another Sketchy Challenge! I stayed pretty true to Sue’s design, but still feel I made it my own! I decided to to pick my papers first and pictures last…not always the easiest starting point. I choose to create my layout using the BoBunny “Safari” collection. As I played with the patterns and sketch I remembered I had a few pictures kicking around from my teenage days in Germany. I choose to use one from school trip to the Berlin! My journalling is tucked behind the upper corner of my picture. I used two 3×4 journal cards included in the collection; folded in half. So I challenge you to go forth and create with this awesome sketch! Don’t forget to share on our Sketchy Gallery! Kim Gowdy
Quick blog share today. This is not the first time I have been late with a Sketchy Challenge, but I always rise to the challenge sooner or later; sometimes I even redeem myself by getting them done “right out of the gate”! This would be the case with June’s sketch; that will be shared on another post! I love grids. They really are the core design element of most everything. When in doubt…think grid! Sue Sykes May Sketchy Challenge is all about the grid! I adapted the sketch for my layout to suit the size and number of pictures I used; I really love how it turned out. The Simple Stories “Good Day Sunshine” collection was the perfect product for this light-hearted page. From the collection I used patterned paper, stickers, chipboard embellishments, clear photo frames and enamel dots. Simple Stories makes it so easy to keep everything co-ordinated! …

Another fun sketch for April! This sketch designed by Sue Sykes was really fun to play with this month. I used papers, alphas and embellishments exclusively from the Simple Stories βI AMβ Collection! As always this collection is full of fantastic colors, images, journal cards and embellishments. It makes putting a layout together pretty quick and easy! Here is my finished layout. Not often do I create a page just about me, but this collection inspired me to do so! I am hopeful in years to come; my family will appreciate me stepping outside of my comfort zone to tell a story about me! I challenge you to do the sameβ¦itβs OK to keep it simple! One other product I did add to this layout was Clearsnap iZink. I mixed the Caviar with some water to make the grey spray you see on the background! Easy Peasyβ¦DONE! …
featuring Sizzix Eclips2 electronic die cutting machine, Core’dinations cardstock,Β Β Simple Stories patterned paper and chipboard stickers Ha! Β It’s not often you run into Marilyn Monroe (since it has been reported she died in 1962), but on a vacation in California, we were happy to see her sitting on a chair in Universal Studios Hollywood. Β My husband was thrilled to have a photo taken with her. Β The April Sketch from the Canadian Scrapbooker Sketchy Challenge was perfect for scrapbooking these pictures that I took with my phone. Β Rather than the circles shown in the sketch, I considered using stars but finally settled on diamonds, since don’t you know, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. I cut the diamonds on Core’dinations Black Magic cardstock with my Sizzix Eclips2 electronic die cutting machine. Β The basic shapes that are supplied with this machine are so handy. Β I just dragged and dropped the squishy diamond shape…
Another month, another Sketchy Challenge! I love working with sketches. They give me a place for my left brain to rest and my right brain to take over; sometimes the transition is that obvious! Sometimes a sketch speaks to me so much I work with it just as it is, but most often I want to change it up and make it mine. I rotate them, flip them, add more pictures or less, it is the starting point of so many options. For this monthβs sketch, I flipped it as if looking into a mirror! I pulled some gorgeous paper and product from Close To My Heart [CTMH]. I have wanted to play with this Wanderful Workshop to Go for some time. The layout is done with patterned papers from the kit. I cut all the country and city names from one of those papers and love how they completed…
