Enjoy Local Scrapbook Activities A few times a year, which is all I can squeeze into my schedule, I take great pleasure in attending an evening crop or class at a local scrapbook store. I usually try to round up a few friends, but I don’t mind going by myself either. It is just lovely to be surrounded by fellow scrapbookers and their creative energy while working on a project uninterrupted by the details of home. I always meet some new people and learn some new things. Inspiration is everywhere! I am lucky enough to live in an area that has a number of scrapbook stores within a reasonable driving distance. Treasured Memories, in Edmonton, has late night crops running throughout the year and often has special themed weekend crops. These typically include dinner, dessert and many snacks, goodie bags, door prizes and a photo booth. I was able to…
Sizzix Eclips2 – Using SVG files Today I decided to try using some free SVG files I found on the internet. An SVG file is kind of a universal format that can be imported into most electronic die cutting machines. The possibilities are endless and files are widely available – there are even some free cut files on the Canadian Scrapbooker website! Check these out here http://www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/cut-files/. If you google ‘free svg files’ you will begin to get an idea of some of the images that are available. There are even more wonderful svg files available for a small fee. A couple of great websites that I have discovered so far are http://www.misskatecuttables.com/ and http://svgcuts.com/blog/. In order to cut svg files with the Sizzix Eclips2, you must upgrade the Ecal ‘lite’ software that comes with the machine to the full featured Ecal software. This costs around $60 but having it…
Hi Everyone…or should I say, “Happy Halloween!” It’s Kelly here to share a layout. Do you have you have your costumes ready and spooky décor around the house? I know I have some cobwebs here and there! ha ha ha Here is a Halloween layout I designed using Simple Stories’ fun “Frankie and Friends” collection, along with some awesome Sizzix dies. I based my design on Sue Sykes’ October Sketch. Have you been playing with her sketches and uploading your layouts to our Sketchy gallery? Here are the three Sizzix dies I used: I die cut them from American Crafts glitter paper… love the sparkle! Beacon Adhesives is great for adhering these pieces: I bent the bat wings for added dimension and just glued their heads down. With white and black markers, I added faux stitching around the title and other cut paper elements. It’s never too late to create a layout based on…
Happy Tuesday everyone! Kim here to share a heartfelt layout with you today! It has been ten months since our dear Java left us for “puppy fields in the sky” and I still am surprised to come home and not be greeted by her, 14 years of unconditional love forms routines! My process for this page came together easily, I think because the subject is so dear to my heart. I had saved some of the thoughtful cards sent to us when we had to put Java down. I think originally I couldn’t throw them out because it made her passing so final and I was genuinely surprised that people had sent them, after all to some she was “just a dog”. When I came across the Graphic 45 paper collection “Raining Cats & Dogs”, I knew it was time to pull the cards out to save forever! This paper…
Hello everyone Connie Nichol here! I was fortunate enough to travel to the Big Island of Hawaii last fall for my 25th wedding anniversary. This was the first time I have ever been to Hawaii, and I was simply blown away. It was absolutely stunning, about how I would picture paradise. Needless to say, I took a lot of pictures while I was there. Luckily for me, Kaisercraft released the Paradiso Collection shortly after I returned from the Big Island. This line is simply perfect for scrapping my vacation pictures. One of things I really love about Kaisercraft collections is that they usually have a package of die cuts to go with the papers. These die cuts are fantastic – there are so many in the package and they are just the perfect thing to embellish layouts, make cards and just generally have fun with. To scrapbook this picture of…
Hello Canadian Scrapbookers!!!!!! It is my extreme pleasure to join you on this lovely Tuesday to share a little inspiration with you. If you know me at all from the magazine, you know me more as a writer than as a scrapbook designer, and true to my role with the magazine, I have some words to share that I hope will inspire you every bit as much as the scrapbook page that I will share with you! Here’s the thing. I have had a self-imposed creatively dry spring and summer and have not touched my scrapbook supplies since about January. I am pleased to say some wonderful things have happened in that time. My family decided to build a new home and I pulled back from my work with the magazine to focus my energy there. I am a VERY messy scrapbooker and once we had our house listed I…

I love all the possibilities with this collection from using them for scrapbook pages, pocket pages, mini’s and cards! Here is the layout I created full of summer fun: I love to layer on my layouts and by using the chipboard stickers, bits & pieces, and enamel dots; a layout can come together super fast and easy! This layout was create in under an hour! I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L Foam Squares to give the embellishments some extra dimension too! One of my favourite products from this collection is the Insta-Squares! They are fun small embellishments that can be used for all different projects. For my layout, I added them as a fun embellishment! Thanks for letting me share a little bit of my…

Good Monday morning everyone! Connie Nichol here with a blog post featuring Sizzix Elegant Flourishes Bigz die, DCWV Coral Couture Paper Stack, Clearsnap Ink and Embossing Powder I am slowly scanning my dad’s 35 mm slides from my childhood, wanting to scrapbook them while I can still remember some of the details, or at least verify them with my parents. The colours and patterns seem to go perfectly with my pictures from the 1970’s and I love that there is a matching cardstock stack. I find the DCWV paper to be so gorgeous that it pretty much stands alone without much embellishment. So, I left the layout very simple, just adding a bit of fussy cutting and some metallic chipboard flourishes. The flourishes were just the perfect touch for this patterned paper. I used the Elegant Flourishes die to die cut some Grafix Chipboard. Since it is a Sizzix Bigz…
