The Winter 2012 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine was filled with wintery, Christmasy ideas AND a fabulous tutorial on how to use Spectrum Noir Markers written by our beloved Christy Riopel. Adding sewing products to your scrapbooking and paper crafting creations is definitely a trendy rage right now. It is so easy to add a button here or there, add machine stitching OR simply add a mess of sewing thread! Yes you read the correctly! Christmas Tags Instead of Christmas Cards Working within magazine timelines is kinda crazy. You could be sitting on the beach sun tanning while working on your Christmas assignments for the winter issue. LOL! Each and every summer at Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, we start to plan for and start creating the projects within the upcoming winter issue. I will send out the assignments when the weather is warm and hear back from each of our designers with questions and their suggestions. Texture Paste, Stencils and Distress Spray – #RememberingChristy

Ever wonder what the heck texture paste, gesso and all those other mediums are and what they are used for? Way back in the Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine we asked Christy Riopel to do a feature article called “Mad for Mediums” to answer these very questions. In this article, Christy played with and explained the various uses of the different kinds of gesso and texture paste. Her projects included techniques using a variety of different types of gesso with everyday scrapbooking supplies like stencils, recycled magazines, distress spray, dies and so much more. Looking back to the Fall 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine when Christy Riopel crafted up a “Crafty Halloween” feature just in time to inspire all those crafty halloween people out there. This feature was full of interesting, easy to create and relatively inexpensive ideas to decorate your home for a party, for the big halloween day or to craft with kids at school or in play groups. Scary Apothecary One of the things I loved the most about Christy’s article was this apothecary set up. Stamping with Adhesives – #RememberingChristy

One of the things we loved the most about working with Christy Riopel was her ability to think outside the box. In her regular Tool Junkie column Christy would take supplies, create a project in the way the products were intended. Next, she would create a few more projects showing you different ways that you may not have thought, to use your supplies. Very clever. Such was the case in our Fall 2013 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine. In this article Christy used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares as stamps – stamping with adhesives – who would have thought. The Summer 2016 issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine featured one of my favourite Bible Art Journaling pages designed by Christy Riopel. The title of the art journal page was “Be Strong and Courageous”. The page was filled with bright colours of ink and layers of stenciling and stickers. A beautiful art journal page that makes me smile each and every time I turn through the pages of our Summer 2016 issue. The Bible Art Journal Page SUPPLIES: Ranger clear gesso, gel medium, distress inks and distress crayons, Bo Bunny stickers, stencils and stamps. Basic Step By Steps Prep your page by using a brayer to apply a thin layer of clear gesso. This lets you see the words on the page, but stops any wet mediums you put on top from soaking through the page. Take a Ranger distress ink pad, and rub it directly onto the page. Don’t worry…

Creating a Stained Glass Effect – #RememberingChristy

Creating a stained glass effect using stamps, ink, dies and tissue paper is definitely one of my all time favourite techniques that Christy taught us through out the years. Christy Riopel taught this technique in one of her first shows that we filmed over at Shaw TV in Calgary. After the show I went home and created TONS of stained glass embellishments for my projects. #RememberingChristy – Izinks

Christy Riopel instantly fell in love with Izinks from Clearsnap. I remember they day Clearsnap sent them to the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine team to play with – a few of us were like “What the heck do you do with these?” I for one am a die hard collector of all things scrapbooking pretty so I instantly knew where they were going to be displayed in my craft room but had no idea how to use them. Giggle Giggle. Not Christy. The first few projects she created with the Izinks were gorgeous, after that the projects were beyond beautiful. What are Izinks?
