Hi everybody, Connie here with my take on the March sketch from the Canadian Scrapbooker It’s a Sketchy ChallengeΒ .Β Β  I stayed pretty true to the sketch this time around and used it to feature a favourite photo of my boys and I on a vacation in the Rocky Mountains a few years ago.Β Β  Heartfelt Creations has a beautiful paper collection called β€˜Celebrate the Journey’ that went perfectly with my picture.Β  The papers in this line come in soft hues of teal, pink, green and brown and feature subtle travel themed patterns such as words, script, maps, bicycles and balloons.Β  Matching stamps and dies are also available. Inspired by the flourishes on the March sketch, I reached for a Heartfelt Creations flourish backgrounds stamp and added some subtle blue touches to the page behind the photo mat. For embellishments, I just cut out pieces’from another piece of patterned paper in…

Hi, Connie here today. Β I love this time of year at Stampin’ Up!Β  Not only is there fun new products available from the 2015 Occasions catalogue, it is also Sale-a-brationΒ  time.Β  This meansΒ  that when you buy $60 worth of product, you earn something free as a bonusΒ  – and there is a lot of free items to pick from. Β Β You can see the Sale-A-Bration catalogue brochure and all the other Stampin’ Up! catalogues here. Today I am featuring a few cards I made with the From the Garden stamp and die bundle available in the new Occasions catalogue and the Irresistibly Yours Designer Series patterned paper I received as my Sale-A-Bration bonus.Β Β Β  This paper is magic!Β  It is white paper with a glossy white pattern that you can colour with markers or ink to become whatever colour you choose. The paper is so versatile, you can make it look…

Hi, Connie here today. This layout was inspired by the February sketch in the Canadian Scrapbooker It’s a Sketchy Challenge and the new Kaisercraft Shine Bright collection. The latter turned up in my mailbox as part of the latest Scrap Shotz monthly kit and the colours were so striking – bright yellow and black and gray – perfect for some older soccer photos in my collection. I knew I wanted to create a soccer ball to use as the circular element suggested by the February sketch and quickly realized that my Sizzix Eclips2 electronic die cutting machine could make that soccer ball an easy thing. I simply googled β€˜soccer svg’ and found a lovely free soccer ball cut file on the internet.Β Β  I imported the file into Ecal (the software used with the Eclips2) sized it appropriately and then cut it out on a couple of different colours…

Graphic 45 has a brand new collection that features images that are perfect for us that love to cook, garden and farm. When I saw the paper and saw pictures of seed packets with carrots and peas, I went weak at the knees. I have a lot of gardening pictures! The colours are rich and vibrant and so fun to work with. You can buy this collection in individual 12×12 sheets or in three different sizes of paper pads. Graphic 45 has also designed matching chipboard, stickers and stamps. Look for it at your favourite scrapbooking stores – it should be arriving any day. I used the January 2015 sketch from the Canadian Scrapbooker sketchy gallery as inspiration and created this layout. I like scrapbooking summer pictures in the depths of January. It makes me hopeful that winter might end someday soon. Think happy summer thoughts! Then, when I had…

Enjoy Local Scrapbook Activities A few times a year, which is all I can squeeze into my schedule, I take great pleasure in attending an evening crop or class at a local scrapbook store.Β Β  I usually try to round up a few friends, but I don’t mind going by myself either.Β  It is just lovely to be surrounded by fellow scrapbookers and their creative energy while working on a project uninterrupted by the details of home.Β  I always meet some new people and learn some new things.Β  Inspiration is everywhere! I am lucky enough to live in an area that has a number of scrapbook stores within a reasonable driving distance.Β  Treasured Memories, in Edmonton, has late night crops running throughout the year and often has special themed weekend crops.Β  These typically include dinner, dessert and many snacks, goodie bags,Β  door prizes and a photo booth. Β Β I was able to…

Sizzix Eclips2 – Using SVG files Today I decided to try using some free SVG files I found on the internet.Β Β  An SVG file is kind of a universal format that can be imported into most electronic die cutting machines.Β  The possibilities are endless and files are widely available – there are even some free cut files on the Canadian Scrapbooker website!Β  Check these out hereΒ  http://www.canadianscrapbooker.ca/cut-files/.Β Β  If you google β€˜free svg files’ you will begin to get an idea of some of the images that are available.Β  There are even more wonderful svg files available for a small fee.Β Β  A couple of great websites that I have discovered so far are http://www.misskatecuttables.com/ and http://svgcuts.com/blog/. In order to cut svg files with the Sizzix Eclips2, you must upgrade the Ecal β€˜lite’ software that comes with the machine to the full featured Ecal software.Β  This costs around $60 but having it…

by Connie Nichol Here’s my take on the September 2014 sketch from Canadian Scrapbooker’s It’s a Sketchy Challenge. Yes, there`s pink on here and it`s a boy layout. I used a great paper stack from DCWV, Vintage Collector and two of the supporting matching smaller stacks. I love the variety of colours and patterns in this stack. Here’s the September sketch. I actually followed it pretty closely this time around.Β  Instead of eight squares, I put in eight paper bottle caps punched from a sheet of the DCWV paper.Β  I found that a 1 ½” scallop punch was the perfect size and added a bottle cap like edge. I also cut the other embellishments out of the paper stacks and used my favourite brown Clearsnap Fluid Chalk ink, stylus and white foam tip for edging and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3LΒ 3D Foam SquaresΒ to add a little dimension. These little touches…

Hi everybody, Connie Nichol here. Halloween is fast approaching, bringing to mind ghouls, goblins, ghosts and all things spooky. My kids love this time of year, especially the dressing up in costumes part, although the abundance of treats collected door to door doesn’t hurt either. Stampin’ Up! has so many cute Halloween themed products in their holiday catalogue. I especially adore the Motley Monsters designer series patterned paper.Β  The patterns and colours are fun and bright, so the resulting projects are cheery and upbeat. Here’s the layout I created using some of these papers. I cut a few cardstock leaves with the Fun Fall Framelit dies but most of the interesting stuff on the page is from fussy cut elements from the patterned papers themselves.Β  I cut out extra tree trunks and layered them onto the base sheet of patterned paper using dimensional adhesive (doubling up the adhesive to add…
