Hello and Happy Fall! Kim here with some layouts to share, inspired by the September Sketchy Challenge. It’s no secret that I LOVE a good sketch as a starting place for scrapbooking. It seems to be what my brain seeks to start my creative process. I’m not one to always follow a sketch exactly. I never see absolutes with a sketch. Some folks see a sketch and distinguish what is a photo, paper and embellishment, they want to know what size to print photos and cut paper to make an exact replica, this is not wrong, just not my way. I, however see a sketch and think looser. What if the photo was paper or vice-versa, could an embellishment be a photo, one photo could hold the ‘weight’ of many photos, a photo could be a journal block, etc. I do not look to replicate  the sketch, though sometimes it…

Hello Creative Scrapbookers! Kim here, hope you are settling into a great summer routine and finding time to enjoy these lovely, long days! I love the extra energy the sunshine seems to gift us, I find time to enjoy so much more, and that includes scrapbooking. Even after a busy day, I am ready for an hour or two to unwind in my craft room. This week I pulled out the March Sketchy Challenge again. My first layout with this sketch can be found on the Facebook Sketchy Gallery. I took the scale down to an 8.25 x 8.25, and believe it or not I used an instruction book that came with a recent purchase. It’s a good base to create over, travellers notebook size and a fun way to up-cycle some waste. Once I have figured out where I want my papers and emebellishments to be, I like to…

Hello Creative Scrapbookers! Kim here with a layout share full of warm, tropical vibes! I am just back from a weekend retreat with some of my favourite people. We shared stories, scrapbooking supplies, laughs and great food…there may have been some wine as well. Most of my friends were so productive…I was not. I do not create well at retreats. I know this and I accept this…yet I keep going to them. Why? Because surrounding myself with creative people, ‘my’ people and craft supplies fills up my mojo. These people feed my energy and my soul! I pack supplies knowing they will only be shuffled around and put back when I get home. Today was my day off. Between laundry, tidying and walking the dog I finished this layout. Little bursts of paper breaks mixed into my day…how about that!? It’s how I create; quietly in my own space, knowing…

I could live in a world of Octobers! I love the temperatures, colours, pumpkins and I am all over Halloween. My son is off on his own and our house doesn’t get many kids dropping by on October 31st, but I still try to fill my cup with as much of the season as I can. We took in the Pumpkins after Dark event in Edmonton, imagine over 6000 hand carved pumpkins! It was impressive to say the least, and a fun evening to be out with my son and husband. I knew as I pulled out my phone to take pictures that I had the PERFECT, new paper collection at home to create a scrapbook page with. Such a new collection to me that it was still in a bag and not put away! For this fun layout I used the Simply Stated Design “Haunted Halloween” collection. Gorgeous papers…

Hello Creative Scrapbookers! Kim here with a quick share of a recent layout inspired by the June 2022 Sketchy Challenge designed by Kerry Engel. This was a super quick layout to pull together, which was awesome when life is busy. Allowed me some creative head space as well as a sense of accomplishment when I add it to my album! I used a combination of Simply Stated Design papers and die cut embellishments and a few bits and pieces from my Ali Edwards stash. I just LOVE how easy it was to make these little embellishment clusters, there are so many lovely pieces to play with! My permanent tape runner from Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L was my adhesive of choice to keep all my parts together! I look forward to working with our second June Sketchy Challenge, stay tuned! Hopefully you are enjoying the beautiful issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, if…
