Kim Gowdy here, for Tuesday with The Team. Today I am sharing a project I made to showcase some hummingbird pictures I took, during a workshop I attended in May.
The accordion file frame was created using the SIZZIX Bigz Die; “Accordion Flip – 3D”. The first time I saw this die in use I immediately fell in love! Cathie Allan was making Christmas Cards for her family with it, and I ordered it online that same day!
For this project I used Canadian Scrapbooker’s Superstock. It is a heavy weight, bright white cardstock that is sturdy and holds up well with layers of ink, paint and mixed media products. If you have never worked with it, I’d highly recommend trying it out!
I applied cream acrylic paint on the Magenta Bubble Wrap Border stamp and stamped it on each of my die cut pieces.
Once dry, I then used Clearsnap Chalk Ink {Butter] and a foam applicator to apply color to the outer portion of the die cut pieces. Gently wipe with a damp cloth or baby white to “clean” the ink off the acrylic paint. The acrylic paint resists the ink, creating a soft, gently textured background.
I cut a second set of dies and cut out the picture frames. I coloured these using more Clearsnap Chalk Ink [Fawn], and adhered to the original cut dies. I matted my pictures with a contrasting color so they would “pop” off their frames. It is important to color, create and paste your pictures before building the accordion frame…I learned this the hard way! LOL
Finally I added a few buttons to decorate the edges and used this adorable Hummingbird stamp from Magenta to complete the project.
The legend of the hummingbirds by PAPYRUS was shared with me by a friend was perfect for this project!
