Hi friends! Noreen here from OrganizedandCreativeMom.com here, sharing a layout based on the March 2020 Sketchy Challenge sketch! Each month I look forward to seeing and using Kerry Engelle’s FREE sketch, and this month I’m using the new Spring Medley Collection from Creative Memories to create my layout based on it. It is a beautiful collection with soft blue, aqua and green accented with navy, gray and beige, and I love that there is a Designer Paper Pack with beautiful patterns AND a Tone-on-Tone Paper Pack that are so versatile! The collection also features sweet stickers, beautiful mat cards, fun paper pockets & embellishments, and a beautiful new Spring Leaf Border Maker Cartridge – all of which work together to document so many different occasions and themes! Take a look: And here is Kerry’s March Sketch from the Sketchy Gallery that I’ll be basing my own layout on: To start my layout I chose a navy paper with tiny dandelion shadows from the Spring Medley Paper Pack to use as the base and since most of it would be covered up, I trimmed out a large square with my 12” Trimmer so I could use it to create accents on my page. Then I trimmed an 11” square from the cloud and sky paper and adhered it to my base. I matted my photos with a subtle gray check paper from the Tone-On-Tone Paper Pack, then distressed the edges of each mat with my All-Purpose Scissors. As an added touch I used a sponge dauber to pick up a little bit of blue ink from the Denim Dot Pen and rubbed it along the sides. These easy and fast techniques really help the photos stand out from the background paper! For the title I used a combination of White Script ABC/123 Stickers and White Serif ABC/123 Stickers. I placed the serif-style stickers spelling “BOYS” onto a scrap of the navy paper (saved from cutting out the centre of the background paper!) and trimmed around them with my All-Purpose Scissors. I adhered the script-style stickers that form the word “My” straight onto the layout and then popped up the layered word “BOYS” with some Foam Squares for dimension. A die-cut embellishment and stickers were added to complete the title cluster. I also wanted to use the pretty new Spring Leaf Border Maker Cartridge in some way, so I used it with the Original Border Maker System* to punch a border from the leftover navy paper. I flipped it over to reveal the neutral kraft colour on the opposite side and then sliced it lengthwise with my 12” Trimmer to get two long pieces. One piece got tucked in between the cloud paper and the navy background paper above the two upper 4” x 6” photos, and the other was placed below the lower 6” x 4” photo. I loved being able to utilize that leftover piece of background paper! (*Pssst…Did you know that now when you buy the Original Border Maker System you get to choose two of the three border maker cartridges that come with it? Awesome customization!) I created the other embellishment cluster by layering stickers and die-cut embellishments and then wrote my journaling with the fine tip of the Denim Dot Pen to finish off the layout. I love how a collection that at first glance seems to be full of pastels and florals can be versatile enough to create a more masculine page! And, I love the picture of me and my boys – it captures and records a moment in time to remember for sure! I hope you go take a peek at all of Kerry’s fantastic sketches in CSM’s Sketchy Gallery and are inspired to use them for your own layouts.
