Hello everyone! Kim here with a spotlight on Echo Park Paper Co.! I love being able to share my love of great companies with you here on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s blog! Let’s do this! What you may not know is that Echo Park was founded in 2010. I was a bit surprised to learn that they are still a relatively new company, I feel that they have been around forever! That is a sign that they are doing it right! It’s a sign that they are providing quality products year after year and staying on top of the industry trends! Hello everyone, Kerry Engel here with one sketch – three different projects. This is a good sketch for a big or dominant photo that really tells your story. The curvy diagonal lines create movement and energy. Supplies: Creative Memories Cap and Gown Collection, Clearsnap ColorBox ink and embossing powder, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L, Stampin’ Up! gold thread, Studio Calico brad. An old Colleague of mine posted her graduation photos on Facebook one day and I instantly had an urge to scrap them. The Cap and Gown collection from Creative Memories has several “2107” embellishments but it’s really a versatile collection. The colors work really well with vintage photos. I glammed it up a bit with gold embossing powder and shiny brads and thread. The papers held up well to mix media techniques. And the coordinating album is a really classy. Inspired by Sketches! My life is more hectic than I can keep up with much of the time and I treasure the opportunities I get to be creative and create wonderful capsules for my family’s memories. I love sketches as a great ‘get me started’ tool. Sometimes the result looks a lot like the sketch and sometimes not, but it really does not matter either way! Here are my takes on three of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketches. March 2017 Supplies Used: BoBunny patterned paper, Southern Ridge Trading Co chipboard, Webster’s Pages letter stickers, Apple Pie memories acrylic arrows. 3-in-1 May Sketchy Challenge by Kerry Engel This month’s Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Sketchy Challenge is bubbling with fun. There are so many ways to interpret this design. My daughter was home from University one weekend studying economics and finance. Her weekend was basically summed up by the fun emojis in Simple Stories Emoji Love collection. It’s a great collection for telling stories without a lot of words.Supplies: Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock, Simple Stories Emoji Love collection, Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L. I wanna bring back “Sticker Cards”. (Not sure “Sticker Cards” was ever really a trend but they should have been because it’s quick and dirty). After spending a bit too much time figuring out where all those emoji’s should go on this page I decided to try whipping together a quick kid-friendly card from this same collection. April Sketchy Challenge with Kerry Engel

April Sketchy Challenge Blog Post 3-in-1 challenge. Happy April everyone! Kerry Engel here. I thought this month we could talk about design principles. I’ve always been a disciple of the CRAP Method of designing: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity. These are the four principles that dictate pretty much everything I create. Here’s how I’ve used these principles in the April sketch: Contrast is created through the placement of the photo strip on the left and the white space on the right. Repetition is expressed through the repeating of the circle motif and the rectangular shapes in the photos and journaling blocks. Alignment is achieved by keeping all the spaces between the elements a similar distance apart. Proximity is attained by keeping “like” elements close and tight. The journaling is kept together (in one area) and isn’t spread all over and the photos are kept collected in one area too. This…

Kim here today to share my take on the March Sketchy Challenge. This fun sketch was designed by the talented Kerry Engel; who shared several takes of this sketch in our Sketchy Gallery. I choose to work with this sketch while on retreat a few weeks back. I am not a productive scrapbooker at retreats because I socialize and enjoy the company around me, I find it hard to create with so much going on but wouldn’t miss them for the world…retreats are just plain good for the soul! I used paper and die-cuts from Kaisercraft’s “Me Collection”. It was the perfect retreat paper…I grabbed 3 Chameleons pens and randomly coloured some of the doodles on the page…all while keeping up with the stories going on around me! I grabbed my Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L tape runner to put everything in place! My title is made from older Tim Holtz…

It’s a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? I’m still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that it’s about ‘playing’ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense. Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. That’s where having a sketch as a launching point helps. I loosely used this months sketch to contain my techniques and create movement down the middle. I really liked how it turned out…

Kim here with my take on the February sketch. This is not my best work, but I had fun with this layout. I feel like I have been in a creative funk since January and am slowly coming off the couch back into my craft room! I am NOT a lover of winter and the darkness that comes with it! Working with a sunset picture seemed a good choice! I just let myself play and put ZERO pressure on the results. I added a thin layer of Dina Wakley Media Gesso to my CSM Superstock and then “messy” coloured my circles with Distress Crayons. Once my colour was on my page, I used a water brush to blend it and even it out. My spiral line and writing was done with a Dylusions Paint Pen – I LOVE THESE!!!!! I used a Magenta stencil with Black Soot Distress Ink for…
