Today on our blog we welcome our guest Cari Locken, who is part of the Simple Stories Design Team! Hello to all you Canadian Scrapbooker fans!Β I’m thrilled to be here on the CS blog today because it holds a special place in my heart. Β I was a part of the original design team when the magazine first came out in the winter of 2005!! Β I still remember Jackie emailing me and asking me if I would like to be a part of something very exciting!! Β After many years of creating for the magazine (almost 10 years!!) Β I decided it was time for me to leave last year as my life and job related activities were taking me in other directions, and my time was limited in terms of scrapbooking. I did, however, continue on with some amazing companies out there and one of them is Simple Stories. Β I’m…
featuring Sizzix Eclips2 electronic die cutting machine, Core’dinations cardstock,Β Β Simple Stories patterned paper and chipboard stickers Ha! Β It’s not often you run into Marilyn Monroe (since it has been reported she died in 1962), but on a vacation in California, we were happy to see her sitting on a chair in Universal Studios Hollywood. Β My husband was thrilled to have a photo taken with her. Β The April Sketch from the Canadian Scrapbooker Sketchy Challenge was perfect for scrapbooking these pictures that I took with my phone. Β Rather than the circles shown in the sketch, I considered using stars but finally settled on diamonds, since don’t you know, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend. I cut the diamonds on Core’dinations Black Magic cardstock with my Sizzix Eclips2 electronic die cutting machine. Β The basic shapes that are supplied with this machine are so handy. Β I just dragged and dropped the squishy diamond shape…

I am drawn to books like a thirsty traveler to an oasis. I read every night before bed and if I canβt for some reason, I have a difficult time settling into sleep.Β I love the tactile feel of the pages and have not yet adapted to digital formats like my husband.Β I love the look of text flowing across a page and disappearing into another time and place. It took several years of marriage before I could convince my husband that when I was reading, I was βdoing somethingβ and that he did not need to leap to my rescue by pointing out other entertainments or βthings to do.β I come by it honestly. My mom is a reader and in fact has a couple of rooms in her house filled with books. I remember her getting a box of books every month from some far off library, and…
Quick share today on the blog! I LOVE working with Sue Sykes’s sketches thatΒ she designs for our Sketchy Challenge! Every now and then I come across one that’s difficult to work with,Β though sometimes it’s just MY state of mind at the time! That being said, this months sketch was awesome from the moment I laid eyes on it! I knew from theΒ time it was revealed which pictures I would work with. I pulled out my Simple Stories DIY collection! Β It is colourful and fun; like the pictures I was using! No special techniques here, just some layering of paper and stickers! I did pull out some old chipboard alphas (that fit my space perfectly) and painted them with Viva Decor’s Inka Gold paints. I love the punch of colour and shine it adds to my page! If you like sketches as much as I do, you’ll LOVE this…
Hi Everyone…or should I say, “Happy Halloween!” It’s Kelly here to share a layout. Do you have you have your costumes ready and spooky dΓ©cor around the house?Β I know I have some cobwebs here and there!Β ha ha ha Here isΒ a Halloween layout I designed using Simple Stories’ fun “Frankie and Friends” collection, along with someΒ awesome SizzixΒ dies. I based my design on Sue Sykes’ October Sketch. Have you been playing with her sketches and uploading your layouts to our Sketchy gallery? Here are the three Sizzix dies I used: I die cut them from American Crafts glitter paper… love the sparkle! Beacon Adhesives is great for adhering these pieces: I bent the bat wings for added dimension and just glued their heads down. With white and black markers, I added faux stitching around the title and other cut paper elements. It’s never too late to create a layout based on…
