April Sketchy Challenge Blog Post 3-in-1 challenge. Happy April everyone! Kerry Engel here. Β I thought this month we could talk about design principles. Iβve always been a disciple of the CRAP Method of designing: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity. These are the four principles that dictate pretty much everything I create. Hereβs how Iβve used these principles in the April sketch: Contrast is created through the placement of the photo strip on the left and the white space on the right. Repetition is expressed through the repeating of the circle motif and the rectangular shapes in the photos and journaling blocks. Alignment is achieved by keeping all the spaces between the elements a similar distance apart. Proximity is attained by keeping βlikeβ elements close and tight. The journaling is kept together (in one area) and isnβt spread all over and the photos are kept collected in one area too. This…
Kim here today to share my take on the March Sketchy Challenge. This fun sketch was designed by the talented Kerry Engel; who shared several takes of this sketch in our Sketchy Gallery. I choose to work with this sketch while on retreat a few weeks back. I am not a productive scrapbooker at retreats because I socialize and enjoy the company around me, I find it hard to create with so much going on but wouldnβt miss them for the worldβ¦retreats are just plain good for the soul! I used paper and die-cuts from Kaisercraftβs βMe Collectionβ. It was the perfect retreat paperβ¦I grabbed 3 Chameleons pens and randomly coloured some of the doodles on the pageβ¦all while keeping up with the stories going on around me! I grabbed my Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L tape runner to put everything in place! My title is made from older Tim Holtz…
Itβs a 3-in-1 challenge! by Kerry Engel Many of you have been using Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s sketchy challenge as your inspiration-spring-board, creating some beautiful layouts and cards but did you know that you could use a sketch to inspire you in your art journal too? Iβm still relatively new to the art journal game. To be honest sometimes I look at all my yummy layers and colorful pages and while I love the techniques and I realize that itβs about βplayingβ and exploring, at the end I wish that they made more sense.Β Visual sense. Visual sense for me starts at the beginning; when I think about the direction or movement that I want in my page. Thatβs where having a sketch as a launching point helps. I loosely used this months sketch to contain my techniques and create movement down the middle. I really liked how it turned out…
Kim here with my take on the February sketch. This is not my best work, but I had fun with this layout. I feel like I have been in a creative funk since January and am slowly coming off the couch back into my craft room! I am NOT a lover of winter and the darkness that comes with it! Working with a sunset picture seemed a good choice! I just let myself play and put ZERO pressure on the results. I added a thin layer of Dina Wakley Media Gesso to my CSM Superstock and then βmessyβ coloured my circles with Distress Crayons. Once my colour was on my page, I used a water brush to blend it and even it out. My spiral line and writing was done with a Dylusions Paint Pen β I LOVE THESE!!!!! I used a Magenta stencil with Black Soot Distress Ink for…

Good day Creative Scrapbookers!Β Jayme Loge here with a quick post of my layout based on the Creative Scrapbooker Sketchy Challenge November 2016 sketch. I love using sketches to get me started, and my process generally goes like this: Choose my photo Search my stash for papers and embellishments that compliment the picture(s). Grab the sketch and go! Depending on the day, the resulting layout can be quite a bit like the sketch or nothing at all like it! The latter happened here: Supplies: Bo Bunny patterned paper, stickers and embellishments, Prima alphabet stickers. The majority of my layout was put together using the Bo Bunny Soiree collection. The tiered rectangles ended up overlapping and becoming a shabby layered background, and the sketch took a 180 degree turn! I never worry about how close my result looks compared to the sketch though. My mantra is that the sketch is…
Hi everyone, Kim here today. I just finished working on a layout using October 2016, sketchy challenge. If my memory is goodβ¦that means I have used every sketch from 2016! Bring on 12 more for 2017! I LOVE them. Here is Octoberβs sketch; my starting point. My completed layout below makes me smile, I love the Simple Stories product I usedβ¦Itβs whimsical and sweet. My layout started like many of mine do, on a piece of Creative Scrapbooker Magazineβs Superstock. I love to build up from the basics and seem to be drawn to the contrast the white gives me when playing with other products! My first layer was created using a TCW stencil and Clearsnapβs Colorbox chalk inks. From there, I positioned my picture. I will usually just add adhesive to the center back of my photo leaving the edges free to slip embellishments under. I added several little…
Hi everyone,Kim here ? Thanks for checking into the CSM blog today. I just wanted to share this monthβs sketch, designed by Kelly Klapstein. This monthβs sketch was designed with card making in mind, βtis the season of making, giving and receiving cards! Itβs a great sketch! I however used it as a starting point for a layout. Thatβs is the cool thing about sketchesβ¦they are simply a starting point for creativity. I used Close to My Heartβs βCity Sidewalkβ collection. I ADORE everything about this collection, itβs full of fun, whimsical papers, die cuts and glittery accents and also has a corresponding Cricut cartridge to keep the fun going strong! I decided to make a gift card holder while I had all this fun product out, Iβll need a few more before December 25th! As you can see, I did not follow the sketch for the cardβ¦but plan to…
Hello! Kim here! Just a quick share of my layout inspired by the November Sketchy Challenge! When I first saw the sketch designed by Kelly Klapstein, I instinctively thought of columns of journaling! Itβs very simple, but I LOVE how it turned out! I designed the text columns in Photoshop Elements 14, printed on a piece of 12×12 cardstock and then added my pictures, paper and embellishments! Supplies used: Stampinβ Up cardstock, Day to Day stamps, ink & markerΒ /Β Graphic 45 patterned paper from Enchanted Forest collectionΒ /Β Simple Stories Life in Color wooden veneersΒ /Β Scrapbook Adhesives by 3LΒ /Β American Crafts Thickers When was the last time you used our Sketchy Challenge?
