Deck the Halls with Christmas Sweaters by Cathy Caines The holiday season is upon us and I am in full swing. I am so ready for the magic of Christmas and all the simple joys it brings as I enjoy the wonder of the season through the eyes of my children Jane (7) and Jack (5). I am wishing you and your families the very best this holiday season โ€“ from my family to yours. About a month ago Stampinโ€™ Up! released their new line of alcohol markers called Stampinโ€™ Blends. Ever since the release, I have been coloring just about everything. However, the Stampinโ€™ Up! Christmas Sweaters stamp set is by far my favourite. The markers seem to bring the sweaters to life. Before making any projects, I coloured several of the images while catching up on The Americans TV show. Once I found myself back in my craft room,…

Hi everyoneย  Cathy Caines here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Blog. I am so excited to be sharing with you the latest product that Stampinโ€™ Up! has released: Stampinโ€™ย  Blends. Stampin’ Blends are alcohol markers and come in packs of two including a light and dark colour of each shade. As of November 1st, there are 12 colours available to be purchased in Stampinโ€™ Up!โ€™s exclusive colours. In addition, there is a colour lifter and two neutral shades (ivory and bronze). Iโ€™ve been so excited and have been colouring many images. The blending of these markers not only works within shades but also between different colours.Todayโ€™s projects uses one of my favourite holiday stamp sets released by Stampinโ€™ Up! called Santaโ€™s Suit. I canโ€™t help but be in love with the sweet little clothesline!I first began this project by stamping the clothing items in Black Archival Ink then colouring…

In the Winter 2015/16ย  issue of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine Christy Riopel celebrated our 10 year anniversary with her TOP TEN MUST HAVE TOOLS! Christy picked 10 tools that she felt she could simply NOT live without. The Punch Some of the tools in this article that she featured,ย  wereย  everyday basic punches. Punches come in all shapes and in all different sizes. There are so many different varieties on the market today allowing you to punch out shapes from monkeys to Christmas trees.ย  Christy was mostly drawn to basic shapes rather than punches with a more limiting shape. She always had a circle punch and a square punch on hand in her favourite sizes. For this layout Christy used a number of different sizes of circle punches from Stampin’ Up! It really is amazing all the different things you can do with a circle or squre punch.ย  One of…

Iโ€™ve been trying to get through my pictures and as a result my layouts are becoming more clean, simple and less time consuming. Thereโ€™s very little time between meal times, soccer practices and school so I am learning very quickly not to agonize over the little details.ย  In fact, itโ€™s fair to say that my scrapbooking style is slowly evolving into cleaner more simple style. This layout is no different; however, I had multiple photos I wanted to include from this beautiful hiking adventure we took on the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland, Canada.ย  The only way I know how to solve that problem is to mix a traditional layout and pocket page layout. After selecting my photos, I realized that I didnโ€™t need the full pocket page spread so I split it in half using my scissors.Starting with a 8.5 x 11โ€ white piece of cardstock I began to…

Hello Everyone – Cathy Caines here on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog. Itโ€™s the time of year when we say goodbye to summer. But in my teens, it also meant that I was saying goodbye to my friends and family as I set off to begin another school year away from home. Itโ€™s always hard to leave and for anyone going through their first year, itโ€™s especially tough. If I am speaking to you โ€“ you got this.ย  Sure, youโ€™ll be poor and stressed out but everyone around you will be in the same boat.ย  Tap into those around you and try hard to work on finding your true calling. The only way to do this is to think about what makes you happy. Good luck and always remember you can only do your best โ€“ nobody expects anything more.About a month ago a lady called me and said that…

Have you tried creating a watercolor effect on a scrapbook page or a card lately? For some reason when people say “watercolor” I get all nervous – like only highly trained artists can create a fun watercolor effect. I am also very guilty of purchasing all kinds of fancy things with the word watercolor on them in hopes that they might some day turn me into a watercolor artists! ย LOL! Okay I just solidified to you all that I am slightly crazy! The Web Show When Kelly Klapstein filmed this webshow with us a few months back I was excited! ย Easy watercolor effect is only a STAMP away!!! YAHOOO! Pair that up with ink, the Brother ScanNCut and some Tombow Dual Brush pens and voila! You got yourself an EASY, ANYONE can re-create card! I love it. The Supplies The base of the card is Creative Scrapbooker Super Stock. A…

Hello everyone – Tracy McLennon here today on the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine blog sharing this beautiful butterfly card I designed using some of my favourite products from Stampin’ Up!, Ranger, Chameleon Color Tone pens and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L. I used watercolour paper and Tim Holtz for Ranger Distress Oxide Inks to create this rust like background. To do this you need a non stick craft mat. Stamp the ink directly onto the craft mat, spray with water and mix with your fingers. Then dip the paper into the ink/water mixture. Dry with a heat gun. Then do the same with the next colour of ink. Dry again with a heat gun. Do the same with the third colour of ink. You can continue this process until you get the coverage you desire.I stamped this beautiful Stampin’ Up! butterfly image on white cardstock using Early Espresso Stampin’ Up! dye ink.…

Coffee Helps by Cathy Caines โ€œLife Happens. Coffee Helps.โ€ This bag of ย beans wasnโ€™t always busted open. Oh no.ย  Itโ€™s wasnโ€™t. I finished up my projects using the Stampinโ€™ Up! Coffee Cafรฉ stamp set and co-ordinating Coffee Cups Framelits dieโ€ฆ. โ€ฆ I laid them on the dining counter ready to photograph the next day when the sun rose. And then I saw thisโ€ฆARGH! My son Jack thought the beans were raisins and had been fiddling around to open the bag. Whatโ€™s the strangest thing is that he doesnโ€™t like raisins.ย  He picks them out of the trail mix packages from Costco. But thatโ€™s when I noticed the tag. โ€œLife Happens. Coffee Helps.โ€ Exactly. This is it.ย  Life happens. Coffee is important to me.ย  I crave it. I drink it black and I like it super hot.ย  I donโ€™t re-heat because it never tastes right after that.ย  I like to drink…

It is always a treat to have our very own designer Kelly Klapstein on our web show Technique Tasters #114ย – Making Waves and Words with the Brother ScanNCut. On this show, Kelly will walk you through a variety of different techniques she used to create this Bon Voyage card. The techniques include – stamping, drawing and cutting with the Brother ScanNCut, creative lettering AND the addition of BoBunny Glitter Paste – which just happens to be a personal favourite of mine. Thanks Kelly! Kelly put together a variety of different products to create the title, the stamped image and my favourite – the glitter wave at the bottom of the card. Products Used The Brother ScanNCut cut out AND drew a number of elements on this card. You definitely want to check out how the ScanNCut also draws with just about any pen. ย BoBunny patterned paper along with some fabulous…
